When The System Doesn't Serve Pets, You Change The Game Here’s the deal—I didn’t lose my veterinary license. I resigned. And the reason? I didn’t agree with how the rules were set up. 15 years later, I’m more confident than ever that I made the right call. To all of you who’ve supported me along the way, I’m beyond grateful. Our community has grown, and every step of this journey has been worth it. I’ll continue to share what’s best for your pets and be here to guide you, every step of the way. and once again, THANK YOU! Should The Government Shutdown End? Even people far from Washington are getting crushed. Federal contractors (over 1 million nationwide) have already missed paychecks , and small businesses that rely on them face “devastating cash flow disruptions and workforce losses.” Meanwhile, food stamp (SNAP) payments are about to freeze – leaving ordinary families forced to choose between feeding their kids and feeding their pets. Our local animal adoption center (pictured) is now overflowing with dogs and cats whose owners simply can’t afford them anymore. Behind these statistics are heartbreaking stories. Knine Rescue in Maryland reports a “sudden spike” in people surrendering their dogs as bills pile up . One mom we spoke to admitted that with SNAP cut off, she “just can’t manage [$400 a month dog food] and put food on the table,” so her puppy Reese will have to go to a shelter . Amy Creel of Knine Rescue says people are “struggling to put food on [their] table, [so] taking care of [their] dog becomes a bigger concern.” Every overwhelmed shelter now has “family pets that don’t understand what’s happening,” waiting in cages while their humans pick between rent and kibble . We can’t just watch this happen. Local rescues are literally holding pet food drives and pleading for fosters: Knine Rescue is “holding a pet food drive” this weekend and is urging everyone to “open your home up to a dog in need” . We can all help by donating pet food or fostering a shelter animal. And most of all, we must pressure Congress – call your representatives, organize community action, and vote. As Code for America’s CEO reminds us, “People deserve a government that works for them. Our leaders in Washington must do better.” #GovernmentShutdown #EndTheShutdown #FoodInsecurity #SNAP #AnimalRescue #RescuePets #FosterPets #AdoptDontShop #DonateFood #PeopleNotPolitics #PeopleDeserveBetter #PetsFirst #TakeAction
