Copper-sulfide mining is too dangerous for the Boundary Waters. These proposed mines from PolyMet, Twin Metals, and Talon would mine sulfide ore, a type of mining with a 100% track record of water pollution. Toxic runoff, acid drainage, and ruined waterways are not "what-if" scenarios. THEY HAPPEN EVERY TIME. Probably the most interesting substance we've ever come across. - At the bottom of an old clay lined lagoon, we find the organics that have fallen in and decomposed over the course of the life of this cell. - It's the sloppiest weirdest consistency you'll ever see. - It's not liquid enough to naturally level itself, but it's not thick enough to load easily. - Can't pump it. - Basically it gets pushed into a cell where it can be loaded into trucks and hauled out of the hole. - Then simply dumped on a field/crop as fertilizer as this is all organic material. - This job required EVERYTHING to be reclaimed which turned into a waaaaaay bigger job than originally anticipated. - Crazy material. - #eppic #heavyequipment

The terrible Rock Mine’s biggest legal challenge just won Now the Rock Mine proponents and FDEP will have to abide by stronger environmental and permitting review, and not rush the process. Thank you @evergladeslawcenter and @tropicalaudubon for taking this to court 🐊 And while this legal challenge doesn’t fully stop the development of 9000 acres of the historical Everglades to rock mine, it does give Floridians more opportunities to stop this project.
