It’s time to start the PCT! ⛺️🌲🥾✨ The day is finally here and I can hardly believe it! On my way to CLEEF campground, I made a stop at the San Diego @REI for some last minute items. Most PCT hikers who fly into San Diego will take the @southernterminusshuttle which stops at REI on the way to CLEEF Campground in Campo. CLEEF offers hikers a place to stay the night before their start date which is a great way to start meeting other hikers. I listened to their nightly safety chat, signed my name on the class of 2026 banner, and enjoyed a delicious pancake breakfast before touching the southern terminus monument and heading on my way to Canada! I can’t wait to see how the adventure unfolds and all the people I’ll meet along the way! Good luck class of 2026 and happy trails! #REIpartner

2026 is the year we stop suffering in the backcountry 🤝 #REIpartner I always want to scream it from the rooftops that ultralight backpacking can be whatever you want it to be!!! Suuuuureeee, you can cut your toothbrush in half and ditch anything that brings you joy... 😂 But I am firmly in the camp that bringing a few “nonessential essentials” will not be the anchor to your ultralight setup! So here are my favorite UL items from @rei Co-op that make sleeping outside a whole lot more enjoyable: -NEMO Moonlite Elite Chair or foam sit pad I genuinely feel like this is an ESSENTIAL because my 32 year old back does not take to using logs as a chair anymore. The Moonlite elite chair is 18 oz, and the sit pad is 5.6 oz so you can choose whichever one works best for you. -Aeropress GO coffee press There are so many different ways to make coffee in the backcountry but this particular method makes the BEST cup for the least amount of weight. The entire kit is 11.5 oz but you can actually shave some weight by leaving behind the lid, scooper and stir stick!!! -Biotite charge 40 power bank Keeps the phone charged on overnight trips! 9.4 oz -NEMO fillo elite pillow I will never not bring a pillow while backpacking!! Anyone who tells you ditching the 3oz pillow is worth the weight savings is lying to you 🫡 -Sleeping bags that zip together Our favorites are the his and hers NEMO disco bags (we use the 30 degree ones in summer) Backpacking is just not one size fits all! We all have different priorities and comfort levels we are willing to endure, so I ALWAYS suggest going to REI and asking a green vest expert to help you build out the perfect UL backpacking set up for you! #backpacking #ultralightbackpacking #ulbackpacking #camping

I think: running on trails. when I moved to LA, I looked for a place on the map where I found the most green patches around it. I found a home where I could run out my door onto the trails, while also having the convenience of stores and things I needed. A bonus? I’m ten minutes away from @rei, where I take advantage of my REI Co-op Membership to stock up on all the things that keep me going. The access to trails right outside my front doorstep is remarkable. I can go from my house to the beach in 12 miles entirely on dirt — a dream come true for me. #REIpartner

We’ve been camping as a family since Joey was a tiny tot, and along the way, we’ve learned that sleep can make or break a trip. It’s actually the number one reason families skip camping altogether. Understandable! Over the years, we’ve slowly dialed in our setup—with a lot of trial and error—and @rei has been a big part of that journey. We upgraded a few essentials from REI’s Campwell collection, including their sleeping bags (two can be combined into one large sleeping bag!), and we found that the right sleep gear makes ALl the difference.
