Hands up if you know the name of this fresh-feathered fluff ball! 🐦
A baby #TawnyFrogmouth is stealing the spotlight in The Nocturnal House @alicespringsdesertpark #CentralAustralia – welcome to the FAM. 🧡
Tawny frogmouths form lifelong partnerships, staying in the same territory for years. During breeding season, the male grooms the female by gently stroking her plumage for 10 minutes or more.

Todd River broke its banks overnight!#natureofalice #alicesprings #flooded #toddriver #redcentrent
An amazing sight in Alice Springs, the usually dry Todd River flowing. This means no ballooning for now, but the Red Centre will soon become the Green Centre and will look spectacular from the air.

What comes to mind when you think of the Australian Outback?
Driving “The Explorer’s Route” on the Stuart Highway through the centre of Australia has given us a whole new appreciation of this part of the country. I know the centre of Australia is often described as remote & empty, but UNTIL we started to drive I don’t think I realized how remote it actually was! Within 10 hours of driving in the southern portion I think I could count the number of “towns” that we passed through on ONE hand! (And that includes if you count roadside stops as ‘towns’.)
Some other tips/surprises about the Outback:
🚛I kind of expected a LOT of it to be barren red sand, but there was quite a bit of plant life & grass along the route! But the Road Trains were something else! Amazing to see 3-4 trailers being hauled behind.
🍶Make sure you have enough water! A lot of the water in the faucets is not drinkable, so it is best to carry some with you, as you don’t know when you will have access next. [We had to pay $10 AUD for 10 liters of drinking water when we were caught short.]
⛽Make sure you’re fueled up – there can be hundreds of kilometers between gas stations! Don’t want the gas light to turn on!
💵Be prepared for the ‘Outback’ sticker shock! Diesel was $2.09 AUD per litre ($1.90 CDN/liter or equivalent to $5.63 USD/gallon) near the coast, but at one remote station in the centre we paid $2.80 AUD per litre ($2.54 CDN/liter or equivalent to $7.52 USD/gallon). Also, we needed bread when near Uluru & the cheapest loaf of bread was $6 AUD ($4.16 USD/$5.37 CDN)
📲Cell Service is VERY limited in the center! We thought since it was a major highway there might be some reception here or there, but the only times we got service was when we were in Alice Springs or had WiFi at a campsite. We were on a Vodafone SIM card, but even others we talked to had limited service. Although it was the perfect excuse to disconnect for a bit!

Processionary caterpillar 🐛 train…
These odd and hairy caterpillars instinctively follow silken trails one behind the other. Sometimes they can be in groups of up to 200 all following one behind the next in search of a fresh supply of food.
Sometimes these trains can be very LONG and even span the width of a road!

Embrace the unexpected magic of a rainy day at #Uluru in the heart of the Red Centre 🧡 We captured this rare spectacle over the weekend in @visitcentralaus, where the region has been experiencing a wet few days 🌧️
While most adventurers flock to witness the fiery hues of sunrise and sunset, only a lucky few get to experience the mesmerising colours and cascades gifted by nature's rainfall.
