I am grateful 🌸 Spending two days at the @nandi_org conference with over 300 beautiful Black women and supporters from across the California Community College Sytem was an amazing heart-warming experience! This year our theme was softness. We focused on self-love, sisterly love, human-love and above all recognizing that strength and softness can co-exist. The @nandi_org Board did the heart-work to provide everyone a fulfilling experience and I believe we did just that. Congratulations to the @nandi_org Board, my sisters in creating space for all to be liberated! I am so thankful to my #SDCCE family that joined the conference, 💜. We are all Nandi! #2025 #Nandi #Black #Women #Strength #Healing #Liberation #Softness #Community #Unity #SDCCE💜

Repost from @sdcceedu part 2; San Diego College of Continuing Education graduate and Chef Rie Sims brings the taste of Indonesia to San Diego at Warung RieRie. The fine-dining restaurant went viral on TikTok just after opening in May 2021, with reservations booked a year out. Sims grew up in Jakarta, Indonesia, where she cooked alongside her father, an international spokesperson for aviation safety. “I was introduced to cuisine from around the world at an early age. When my dad visited a country, he would cook the traditional staples from there, and I would remember his recipes,” she said. “He would tell me to cook with my heart because when someone makes you food, they give you their heart.” Before moving to San Diego with her husband, Dave Sims, Rie managed surf schools for Billabong and directed films in Indonesia. At 41, she became the co-owner of Warung RieRie and has since achieved international success. Soon after they went viral on social media, they received special recognition on May 2 from San Diego County Supervisor Joel Anderson. Warung RieRie became the first legal Microenterprise Home Kitchen Operations (Mehko) home kitchen in the City of San Diego. Additionally, Anderson proclaimed May 2nd as “Warung Rie Rie Day.” Congratulations to the Sims family. “As a chef, you cannot only cook; you have to run your business,” said Sims, who developed a business plan and menus in class for Warung RieRie. “The projects at SDCCE transitioned my restaurant into a fine dining experience.” Share your SDCCE experience with us to be featured! #WarungRieRie #SanDiego #SDCCEGRAD #SDCCE #CulinaryArts Learn more about Chef Rie in SDCCE’s News Room and the SDCCE YouTube channel. #AAPI #aapiheritage #CulinaryArts #SanDiego #Indonesia #IndonesianFineDining #IndonesianCuisine #warungrierie #smallbusiness #womanownedsmallbusinessowner
Such an inspiring, creative, sustainable morning with @sewloka at @sdcceedu for Earth Week! The entire textile department contributed to this amazing tapestry that will be revealed at tomorrow’s main event-live sewing, spoken word poetry, showings of River Blue and more! If you can’t make it tomorrow, check out the truly remarkable offerings from SDCCE-sewing classes from beginners to digital pattern drafting and everything between. They also offer cooking, jewelry making, auto, ESL, computer classes… it’s such a wonderful community resource and y’all, the classes are FREE. Like free free. Look at these @berninausa machines-the tools and instruction are top notch! Wherever you are, I highly recommend taking time to sew with friends. It’s such a wonderful energy in a room full of people excited about sewing-are you a solo sewist or do you love a group sewing moment? #sustainablesewing #earthweek #sewyourselfsustainable #upcycle #sdcce #makeitlast
