Your voice is not only sound. It is your vibrational signature. The Earth is mostly water. So are our bodies and our brains. In ancient Chinese philosophy, water represents life force, intuition, memory, and transformation — a living medium connecting all things through invisible flow. For years I have been exploring Cymatics: the visualization of sound through water and vibration. In this experiment, I express a simple intuitive tone into a microphone connected to my custom-built Cymatics device. The vibration instantly transforms water into living geometries and resonance patterns. For the first time, you can see your own voice. A while ago I was contacted by @playtronica ❤️ and they gave me a Playtron: A 16 input midi controller to play with conductive objects and trigger midi notes to synthesizers. They proposed me to create an instrument with this device and I accepted the challenge. I decided to use an old toy glokenspiel. The goal was to create an instrument that could be played acoustically and also electronically, so I came up with this hybrid instrument that depending on the way the plates are struck sounds acoustic or electronic. To maintain the sonority of the aluminum plates I used copper tape: This way I could connect myself electrically to the plate without losing the vibration. I didn’t practice much to play, just a brief demonstration of the possibilities. :) thanks PLaytronica for inviting me to play with your instruments! I listen to your questions and comments. Me propusieron crear un instrumento con este dispositivo y acepté el desafío. Decidí usar un viejo glokenspiel de juguete. El objetivo fue crear un instrumento que pudiera tocarse de forma acústica y también de forma electrónica, Así llegue a este instrumento híbrido que dependiendo la forma de percutir las placas suena acústico o electrónico. Para mantener la sonoridad de las placas de aluminio use cinta adhesiva de cobre: De esta forma podía conectarme eléctricamente a la placa sin perder la vibración. In April @isabelbeavers invited me to give a workshop at @harvey_mudd for Planetary Mirage, a symposium about making tangible the hidden impacts and realities of our abstract digital infrastructure. I used contact mics, EMF mics, and familiar musical forms to turn our grating, buzzing devices into music. Developed by Passepartout Duo, @passepartoutduo, in 2021 and launched with Berlin-based KOMA Elektronik @koma_elektronik, in 2024, it won first prize at the Guthman Musical Instrument Competition in 2025.
