By the grace of God and a true miracle brought by my grandma, my dad was able to receive stem cell treatment in Panama that ultimately saved his life and gave him several more years with us. Now it’s 2025 and all I have of him is the bear he sent me while he was in Iraq. It’s Christmas Eve in 2025 and every bone in my body is filled with anguish and a longing I will never be able to fulfill. I woke up and the thought alone of my dad being gone was enough to send me running to the bathroom to vomit. One thing I’ve learned is how physical grief is. I threw up in an airport bathroom last week because the last time I was at an airport it was to bring my dad home in a flag draped casket. I have no idea how to navigate whatever it is I’m navigating. All I know if that I can only do it about 5 minutes at a time.
