Okay, can we talk about one of America’s most charming cities? 🥹✨ St. Augustine, Florida, founded in 1565, is not only America’s oldest city, but also contains the narrowest street in America (Treasury Street at just 7 feet wide) Other historical sites include the Castillo de San Marcos, the oldest masonry fort in the U.S., and the Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse. The “Ancient City” doesn’t stop there with its wonders, with the Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Museum, the St. Augustine Lighthouse, and more! 😍 And of course, the lively downtown with historic buildings and colorful streets filled with art and small businesses. Music flows through the air with local artists playing instruments of all kinds and poets and painters showcasing their art to make a living. 🏙️🌟 It’s one of those cities that you could visit over and over and see new things each time. But the best time to visit, by far, is during Christmastime when the sun sets and the city turns into a holiday wonderland! It may be the best (IMO), but St. Augustine is so charming that, really, anytime is a great time to visit!

St. Augustine, en Florida, es la ciudad más antigua de los Estados Unidos. Fue fundada el 8 de septiembre de 1565 por el explorador español Pedro Menéndez de Avilés. El nombre de la ciudad se debe a que el almirante español avistó tierra firme el 28 de agosto de 1565 y la bautizó en honor a San Agustín de Hipona. Situada en la costa noreste de Florida, su trazado de calles estrechas y fortificaciones de coquina refleja más de cuatro siglos de conflictos militares, ataques piratas y epidemias. Esta densa acumulación de acontecimientos alimentó un extenso folclore local, comenzando por la conocida leyenda que vincula a Juan Ponce de León con la búsqueda de la Fuente de la Juventud en 1513, un mito consolidado por la tradición a pesar de la falta de documentación histórica que lo respalde. En el corazón de la ciudad se erige el Castillo de San Marcos, una fortaleza del siglo XVII a la que se atribuye la historia del hallazgo de una celda secreta en el siglo XIX, donde supuestamente se encontraron los restos encadenados de una mujer noble y un oficial español castigados por un amor prohibido. El Faro de Saint Augustine, construido en la década de 1870, es otro foco central de la narrativa urbana; allí se habla de las sombras y risas de las hijas del superintendente Hezekiah Pittee, quienes murieron ahogadas durante la construcción de la torre en 1873. A estas historias se suman las del Cementerio Huguenot, donde la tradición sostiene que se manifiesta el espectro del juez John B. Stickney tras la profanación de su tumba, y las de la Vieja Cárcel de 1891, un penal de condiciones severas y ejecuciones públicas al que la memoria popular atribuye ruidos de cadenas y sombras entre sus celdas. En la actualidad, la concentración de estos relatos ha convertido a Saint Augustine en un centro de turismo de misterio.
