Last November Chris and I did a little gig in York to celebrate the release of my latest album ‘the sage and the rose’. Here’s a video of ‘snow song’ filmed by the lovey @utterly_fuzzled . The song was first conceived on a mindfulness retreat in November 2024 and then later finished with my husband and long time music partner Chris who fine tuned the structure. During the retreat it snowed one morning in a way I don’t remember seeing since I was a kid. I remember walking up the hill to the retreat centre listening to 50 words for snow by Kate Bush and watching pheasants dart through blizzard. Pure heaven! #folkmusic #newmusic #katebush #snow #folkmusicyork
A new song in 2026 from @snowalongtheline about the value of friendship in old age. So many songs about romantic love but so few about friendship

@niamh_corkey helping me sing a wee song from my forthcoming album, enjoy x #folkmusic #singersongwriter #scottishfolk #acoustic
This folk song is about boys chopping wood to make a violin, only when they start the tree speaks: the voice of a girl. Her mother turned her into a tree.
We will be bringing this music to four venues in March. First to @zameen.art with @theinfidelsjazz. Then to the beautiful @thecedar for our dear friends in Minneapolis. Then for our first show in NYC in years at The Jazz Gallery. And finally to @bigearsfestival in Knoxville. People have been telling us for years that we should play at this incredible festival and it is finally happening. So honored. @julia_ulehla and I are so grateful to @pirecordings for helping us share this music with the world.

this one's for all you dirty crooks out there! i like this one because it lets me get kinda sloppy with my violin in a way i don't often do. it's another beautiful morning in folk city, and you are a horrible, horrible, fiddle player.

✨🖤✨“Dacw ‘nghariad i” – “There is my beloved”✨🖤✨This beautiful love song comes to us from Welsh folksong tradition, and still sings here in the modern day partially thanks to the fact that it was published in a marvelously rich collection of Welsh folksongs in the Journal of the Welsh Folk-Song Society (1910). More specifically, we have a woman documented as “Mrs. David Evans” to thank, who sang today’s song to a folklorist named Mary Davies in the fall of the year 1908, in the town of Whitchurch, Cardiff. Evans told Davies that she learned the song from the singing of a traveling tailor named Thomas Elias.
Much like the gorgeous Sephardic love song I shared last week, our Welsh love song paints us a vivid picture of the Beloved and the environment surrounding them. “My beloved is down in the orchard – I wish I were there! I can see the whole scene in my mind: the house barn, the shed with the doors wide open… I’ll wait here, in the loving shade of the magnificent branching oak until my beloved comes to meet me.”✨🖤✨
The harp is an incredibly important and beloved instrument in Wales, with a history that dates back beyond knowing. It appears in the ancient mythologies and legends of Wales; and even appears in the third stanza of today’s song (which I wasn’t able to include here, unfortunately): “There stands the harp, the strings waiting to be played- but there’s no point in playing if she’s not here to hear it.” The narrator must have been in a heavy state of lovelonging indeed, if even their beloved harp was rendered mute in the absence of the beloved. On another note, (in light of our Tristan and Isolde dive this month), Welsh harpers make two appearances appearances in the old telllings of Tristan and Isolde: a great master harper appears singing and playing as an honored guest at the Cornish court, making a lasting impression on Tristan in his childhood; and during Tristan’s time in Wales in his adulthood, a Welsh master harper on their way to Cornwall bears a gift-message from Tristan to Isolde (I’ll have more to say about that gift next month)✨🖤✨

What a joy to know Molly, to sing with her, to share nature with her, to call her my music buddy. I wrote it with both of us in mind, as well as all of the young ears it might fall upon. This sweet song is one we both adore and really wanted to share in this way with you! We hope you enjoy this song as much as we do. Please take some time in nature today…to wander, to look up, and discover beautiful things!
