They Used Whiskey Barrels to Mine Gold?!
Exploring the Monte Cristo Mining District, we came across a small gold and silver mine with one of the most unique finds yet…
Old whiskey barrelsrepurposed as ore buckets.
In the harsh conditions of the late 1890s and early 1900s, miners used whatever they had. Even empty barrels became part of the operation, hauling ore out of the mountain.

For the last week I’ve been on vacation in the sierras disconnected from the world to a significant degree. While there, I took a little side trip to the Inyo mountains to visit the Cerro Gordo Mine, @cerro.gordo.ca , a wildly interesting silver mine that helped build Los Angeles. There we met the new owner who is doing remarkable@things to preserve the history of the mine and tell the story both above ground and below on his YouTube channel -Ghost Town Living. I highly recommend his book as well, filled inspiring with stories of grit, determination, persistence and struggle that he has dealt with while living at Cerro Gordo @brentwunderwood if you are ever near Lone Pine, California you should definately go visit the Cerro Gordo Mine. 10/10 would recommend #ghosttowniving #cerrogordo #silvermine #rockhound #mininghistory

A little quiet inspiration from Silvermine.
Here’s to slowing down, finding a moment of calm, and making space for what restores you.
Happy Labor Day.
POV: You just discovered what was hiding inside the mountain. 🪙⛰️(Part2)

In 2021 I travelled back to my hometown of Cobalt Ontario which at one time was a silver mine boomtown.
While I was there I went on an adventure to some of the sites in the area. It was nice to get back to my roots and connect with some awesome Canadian Heritage.
This year in September I will return to play a show in the local miners tavern. I can't wait.

I know it’s winter in the uk but in Cape Town it’s our turn to enjoy summer. Last few days have been a howler but today was a corker so made the most of connecting with nature at Silvermine Dam.
