"I'm third generation Windrush descendant. My grandad stowed away on the Windrush so when he landed he first spent 6 months in prison. When he came out, him and his friends, without being able to read or write, they then decided to be entrepreneurial, so entrepreneurial spirit was always in me." - Corey Johnson Corey Johnson is a multi-platinum music producer, philanthropist and founder of record label @defendersent With a career encompassing music, business development, brand building and youth work, he has established several media companies that work alongside each other from one creative hub in south-east London. 📻🎸 Visit our current exhibition Taking Care of Business to learn more about the story of @coreyjohnsonuk – along with some valuable advice on how to succeed in the creative industries and the importance of hard work. "If you're a migrant or your family has migration history, I feel there is even more pressure for you to overachieve. You were brought here because your parents want you to have a better life and a better life means getting a better job and getting more money etc. I'm not saying this is the wrong thing to do or encourage, but it ends up with being too much pressure and there's so many examples of when that fails people" – Stella Patsikas on 'Girlboss' feminism and migrant entrepreneurship This is Stella Patsikas - a feminist and a foodie. She has previously spotlighted stories of female entrepreneurship in a #StoriesinFocus mini tour of our Taking Care of Business exhibition, through the lens of her own migration story. Some of her women migrant entrepreneur inspirations are Asma Khan, who founded the @darjeelingldn Darjeeling Express and Spasia Dinkovski, owner of @mysticburek Mystic Burek Visit #TakingCareofBusiness to learn more about Asma Khan and Spasia Dinkovski's stories – and the role migrant entrepreneurs have played in shaping our lives.
