This historic black owned gem has been a staple for jazz musicians in DC since the 1920’s. Before there was Harlem, there was U street and some of the most notable musicians of the time such as Billie Holiday and Louis Armstrong started their jazz career in DC. The offer intimate live music performances, Sunday - Thursday from 6:30 PM to 10:00 PM. Friday and Saturday from 7:30 PM to 11:30 PM. No cover Wednesday and Thursday. $10 per person entertainment charge on Friday, Saturday and Sundays. Reservations recommended. I’m not sure how to describe what The Mansion on O Street is. But it definitely is *not* like anything I’ve ever experienced in DC or anywhere else. It’s a museum, a maze, an open house, an architectural masterpiece, a gift store, event space, and a cultural safehouse. They offer all sorts of tours. I did the Secret Door Experience for $30, where they essentially let you loose in the mansion to explore. There are allegedly more than 70 secret doors, but I only found like 15 of them. My guide said most people stay for at least 2 hours, which I completely understand; there’s so much to see and I got lost several times.
