RISK Management Initiative set to protect democratic connectivity & resilience!
Undersea cables are the arteries of the global economy and communication channels, but they are threatened by hybrid warfare interference. MOFA and the Formosa Club held the Taiwan–Europe Undersea Cables Security & Cooperation Forum recently, during which MOFA Minister Lin Chia-lung announced the launch of the RISK Management Initiative on International Undersea Cables, calling on democratic countries to work together to protect critical infrastructure.
European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs MEP Rihards Kols stated that Taiwan sits at a vital juncture of the Indo-Pacific’s digital infrastructure, as a strategic hub for global connectivity, so its experience needs to be part of the conversation.
The RISK Management Initiative comprises four tenets:
R stands for risk mitigation.
I stand for information sharing.
S stands for systemic reform.
K stands for knowledge building.
Strengthening Taiwan-Europe cooperation and undersea cable resilience makes democratic connectivity more resilient!
Russian spy ships in our waters show what we are up against. Putin is campaigning against us and threatening our infrastructure like wind turbines and undersea cables. We have taken the peace dividend for too long. It is time we took defence more seriously and ensured we are ready. Today, we are not.
Russian drones hitting Poland are an escalation- and a test.
Putin has tried this before with attacks on undersea cables and the European Embassy in Kiev. He is testing us, and every failed test invites more escalation and more attacks.
These drones were shot down by Polish pilots flying side by side with Dutch ones and I want to thank all of them. This is shows that Europe is stronger when we stand together.
It’s time for a forward defence- let’s establish a no-fly zone in Western Ukraine and protect Europe
Across the ocean floor, undersea cables carry more than 95 percent of the world’s digital traffic. Any disruption or compromise could isolate a country, threaten national security, or lead to billions of dollars in damages.
That’s why we’re working with our Indo-Pacific partners, like Japan, and private companies, like @nec_corp, to connect people across the region and ensure this infrastructure is secure and resilient.
Undersea cables are a hidden but vital part of global internet infrastructure, carrying 99% of our international data. What would happen if the UK’s connections are severely disrupted?
A new report from Parliament’s Joint Committee on the National Security Strategy warns that the UK must strengthen its defences against sabotage.
The Committee calls for stronger military deterrence, sovereign repair capacity, and more extensive resilience plans to protect the UK as a global hub for internet traffic.

The Undersea Cables That Run the World
🚨 Part 776 — The Ocean Has Invisible Rivers 🌊👻
You can’t see them…
but they flow faster than rivers on land.
🌊 Underwater currents called thermohaline flows
move cold, salty water across the seafloor like highways.
⚠️ These hidden rivers can
• drag ships off course
• snap undersea cables
• reshape the ocean floor
🧊 Some are so powerful they carve paths
that last millions of years.
The scariest rivers on Earth…
are the ones you’ll never see.
💬 Would you swim if you knew this was below you?
