⛷️ When you think of Whistler, Canada, your first thought might be of hitting the slopes. After all, it’s home to 8,000 acres and 200-plus trails.
❄️ If you venture high above the village, though, up above the ski lifts and apres-ski restaurants, you’ll find something equally mind blowing — ice caves carefully shaped over thousands of years. Because they are so remote, strolling through one comes with guaranteed bragging rights.
❄️ The vaulted blue-ice ceilings are cathedral like. Smooth and scalloped. And in some sections Windex-colored blue. These tunnels of ice are carved up each season when water from the glaciers begins to melt.
❄️ As you walk through the cave over slippery rocks you can see tiny specks of sand and air bubbles trapped behind the surface. Occasionally light streams into the cave from skylights (or moulins) up above.

📍Meet at Whistler Municipal Heliport . Within minutes you are crossing the Pemberton Icefield — the largest ice cap in the entire region.
📍A half hour later the helicopter touches down in the Mount Meager region, a glacier-clad volcanic complex. Then, it’s time to explore with a guide who leads you through the cave and chats about how these formations actually develop.
📍Then, sit downfor a picnic lunch surrounded by glaciers and panoramic alpine scenery.

Tucked away in the Whistler woods lies Parkhurst Ghost Town, an abandoned 1920s logging town slowly being reclaimed by nature.
We spent the day exploring the decaying cabins, old machinery, and unearthed vintage bottles left behind by time. Walking through here feels like stepping straight into a time capsule.

When ski season ends, Whistler just swaps the skis for bikes! 🚵♂️ The mountain turns into a whole different playground, with riders taking their bikes up the lifts and heading back down the trails. 👀

Turns out clipping myself to the side of a mountain is a lot more fun than I expected 😂
On our latest trip to Whistler I tried something completely new — a Via Ferrata tour with Mountain Skills Academy & Adventures (MSAA).
If you’ve never heard of Via Ferrata, it translates to “iron path” and is basically a protected climbing route built into the mountain using fixed cables, metal rungs and other holds. You wear a harness and stay clipped into the safety cable as you make your way up the route, giving you the experience of climbing exposed mountain terrain without needing traditional rock-climbing experience.
And coming from someone who is not particularly fond of heights… I LOVED it.
There were definitely a few moments where I looked down and thought okayyyy, we’re pretty high up here 😅, but being clipped in and having solid holds made it feel way more approachable than I expected.
Our guide Alex was fantastic, the views just kept getting better as we climbed, and it was such a cool way to experience Whistler Mountain beyond the hiking trails I normally gravitate toward.
