My landscape painting inspired by Wolf Kahn’s color elements and influenced by Milton Avery’s flat shapes is finally done 🌷 I was very challenged by this piece. This was not my typical painting style, but I’m so glad that I pushed myself to go outside of my comfort zone. I wasn’t expecting to like the final result as much as I did, but I love it so much that I’m keeping it for myself. This just goes to show that everything you do influences and helps you strengthen your unique style. I bring my experience from several different mediums, and together with the influences here, I was able to make something totally different. What do you think of the painting? Created during his time in Venice with his wife, painter Emily Mason, this striking depiction of the Grand Canal showcases Kahn’s masterful blend of realism and abstraction. His energetic linework creates a dramatic shimmering effect across the iconic waterway. Kahn studied under Hans Hofmann and became one of America’s leading colorists. I was in my studio, feeling unfocused and uninspired. I put away my brushes and went to @mfaboston in search of inspiration. From the moment I walked in behind the man in the “Dear person behind me, the world is a better place with you in it. Love, the person in front of you,” shirt to @hankwillisthomas ‘s With All Deliberate Speed - only fully visible with a camera flash (so insightful, creative, inventive!), to the Dali exhibition (I never realized The First Days of Spring is collage seamless integrated with oil paint), to the exhibition of lotus flowers in Indian art (I just painted two lotus paintings and have been thinking about lot about lotuses and their meaning), to the Albizu pink and red abstract painting and the Getz/Gilberto album cover (Albizu studied with Hans Hofmann - as have several artists I’m studying recently, including Wolf Kahn and Franz Kline.)
