To introduce the Scottish Organic Action Plan, which launched in January, we had the pleasure of visiting three organic businesses in Scotland.
It was great to speak to Jill Clark at @connagecheese, which has been organic certified since 1993, to find out more about the business and its processes. In the video below, Jill tells us how the inspiration for becoming an organic farm was care for the animals, sustainability and the environment.
You can find out more in our organic video series, and by downloading the Scottish Organic Action Plan via the link in our bio.
I recently visited Darvills Hill Farm to see firsthand how the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) is working for farmers, and today at @nfulife Conference I spoke to farmers about the changes we are making to support a more resilient, profitable future for farming.
NFFN farmer Rachel Ives has shifted Kilburns Farm in Balmerino, Fife, from intensive arable production to a pasture-based, #organic mixed livestock system. 🐑🐄
In this video created by @soilassociation Scotland, Rachel explains how she has rebuilt #SoilHealth, restored wildlife and created a resilient, low-input, nature-rich farm.

Shocking pictures have emerged showing poor animal welfare, pollution and raw sewage on a state-run farm in Northern Ireland.
When setting new legislation, Government has always worked in cooperation with the farming sector.
In 2025 the department for environment and agriculture decided to cut those ties and move closer to EU legislation.
In order to prove it was working the department used a government funded farm AFBI to produce evidence.
It now appears the practices on the farm have been called into question.
GB News' Dougie Beattie investigates the accusations.
AFBI declined an interview, but have previously said they undertook an “extensive and thorough investigation” after concerns were raised which included external inspections by DAERA, the Northern Irish Environment Agency and Red Tractor.
They stated the material presented related to incidents over a period of approximately three years and that they were “aware of many of these incidents when they originally occurred and were content that they had been previously dealt with appropriately” but they were further investigated and “the outcomes of the inspections, investigations and audits were positive”.
They strenuously refute any suggestions of poor farming practices.

It’s great to see so many more people caring about the quality of food they are putting into their body 👏🏼
Slurry is a critically important high-value resource in modern, sustainable farming, acting as a natural, on farm source of essential nutrients that directly supports the growth of grass and silage, which in turn feed the cows.
There’s so much about farming that’s so intriguing to me there is a massive background to producing such high quality produce of meat.
