The Afeela was a $90,000 electric sedan that was a joint venture between Sony and Honda. Now it’s just the latest in a lineup of EVs to end up on the scrap heap as automakers adjust to slower demand and policy whiplashes. #sony #honda #ev
Sony and Honda are launching a luxury EV brand called Afeela, available exclusively in California with deliveries starting at the end of the year. The debut comes as government incentives for EVs fade and rival high-end EVs such as Lucid struggle to gain traction. The Afeela 1 has 28 speakers, wraparound screens, an AI assistant and gaming capabilities. Read more at the link in bio. Want stories like this in your inbox? Sony Honda Mobility is canceling the first and second Afeela electric vehicle models it had planned for North America, and the partners are reviewing the future of the joint venture. The partnership between Honda Motor Co. and Sony Corp. to develop and build EVs under the Afeela brand fell victim to the same market factors that forced Honda to cancel three EVs this month, the Japanese carmaker said in a March 25 news release. The Afeela 1 sedan, slated for delivery late this year, and its successor crossover model were to be based on Honda’s next-generation 0 Series EV architecture and built in the U.S. #afeela #sony #honda #automotive
Sony Honda’s new $100,000 was launching this year in California. But it just got cancelled. But why?
Sony and Honda just killed the Afeela. Both models cancelled, weeks before the first customers were supposed to get their cars. The $102,900 “PlayStation car” first shown at CES in 2022 is now officially dead after Honda pulled its EV platform from the joint venture. Reservation holders will get full refunds. Did anyone actually want this car?#technews #afeela #sonyev #hondaev #electricvehicles

$65 billion in losses. And everyone's calling it the death of EVs. They're wrong. ⚡️ Honda just announced up to $15.7 billion in losses tied to scrapping three electric models planned for North America. Ford is sitting at $19.5 billion. Stellantis at $25 billion. The headlines are loud. But here's what they're not telling you. Honda isn't walking away from EVs. It's reallocating. Refining. Rethinking the pace. Honda's own president admitted that US demand was lower than expected, not because people don't want cleaner transport, but because the conditions to support it weren't in place. That's the real story. The EV transition doesn't stall because the technology is wrong. It stalls when charging is inconvenient, inaccessible, or unreliable. When infrastructure doesn't keep pace with ambition, adoption slows. When adoption slows, manufacturers panic. The answer isn't fewer EVs. It's better, smarter, more accessible charging infrastructure built around how people actually live and work. 🔋 That's exactly what Charge Ninja was built for. The question was never whether electrification would happen. It's who will be ready when it does. We're ready. What's your read on the current EV landscape? Genuine slowdown or necessary recalibration?
