Florida DID NOT, ‘end property taxes.’ The real story isn’t “property taxes are going away.” It’s “the tax base is being moved.” When you move a tax base, human nature + money = 2nd order effects… Video Coming This Week: Drawbacks + Winners/Losers. *Not an alarmist and I do have faith in Florida. With that said, I study human behavior throughout history. One drawback most miss: “property tax relief” can morph into “fee inflation” (or worse). When counties have lose flexible/visible revenue like property tax, one common pattern is: * More user fees * More special assessments * More “district” charges * Less transparency (fewer people know what an MSBU/MSTU is than “millage rate”) Still many questions: -How might this change rent? -Is a Rent Cap model in Florida’s future? (doubtful) -Where and who will the necessary county expenses come from? -How does this affect applying for and PROVING homestead, if at all? -Will small business have to help carry the burden? -Will this further the “lock-in” effect with existing Owners already holding a sub 5% interest rate? If so, how will this affect inventory and then pricing? Quick reality check: House-passed HJR 203 (Engrossed 1) proposes: * Exempts homestead from all non‑school ad valorem property taxes starting Jan 1, 2027 (if citizens approve) * “Ad valorem” = value-based property tax portion (millage × taxable value) * Does NOT touch school district levies (so not “property‑tax free”) * Does NOT apply to “assessments for special benefits” (huge “quiet” clause for what might happen next) * Special/non‑ad valorem assessments STAY (trash, stormwater, CDD, etc.) * Adds restriction: local city/counties can’t reduce total funding for law enforcement, firefighters, other first responders below a base budget level (FY 2025–26 or 2026–27, whichever is higher) -If passed by FL Sen AND Citizens: starts Jan 1, 2027. First bills generally payable Nov 1, 2027. -Escrowed taxes (most): monthly change likely not until 2028. We will also look at what city/counties can do on their own vs what must be approved by the people. Questions or angles you want me to consider for the video? Comment or DM and I’ll add it in!
Al Gore’s film An Inconvenient Truth did more harm than good. It misrepresented the science, exaggerated the impacts of climate change, made people fear CO2, and pushed an alarmist narrative. Overall I think we would be better off today if it had never been made.

I was raised Catholic there’s always forgiveness but not until these kinds of lists go away. Detection doesn’t = danger and the issue with @ewgverified @environmentalworkinggroup dirty dozen list is it’s using the right numbers and then giving you an alarmist interpretation. My biggest critique with the EWG is I used to love the organization in my 20s, then I started to mistrust the FDA, then I started working with a scientist and I seriously think it saved me from going on the MAHA path. #EWG, we’ve had some conversations on this, but as you’re also horrified by what’s happening with legislation, I’m reminding y’all that these kinds of lists hurt the American psyche, radicalize people and only sow distrust with the FDA. Just look at the comments on these posts, it’s not helping. And now, not sure I blame people now! We have an HHS secretary who does sauna in denim while telling you measles is good for your immune system. It’s unhinged. I think the EWG, which has lobbying arms for the organic food industry, could truly do good. The team is LOVELY on the phone. But this is counter to what every food scientist is telling me, every toxicologist is telling me and even what people who work in pesticide regulation are telling me. Please start working with industry experts, and please stop publishing alarmist lists off data sets that show us our food is largely safe. AND PLEASE explain why some pesticides are banned in Europe… it’s not always because it’s dangerous for the end user… but because they care about the farmers who handle it. Let’s spotlight that. If you want more safe food? - Vote for candidates that believe we need to overturn Citizens United, a Supreme Court ruling in 2010 that make it A-OK for corporations to influence politicians and elections. - Vote for candidates (locally and federally) that care about the environment and safety and SCIENCE - Vote for candidates and push candidates to get serious about AI regulation— hard to grow food with no water - Help people get access to healthy food, fund SNAP and abolish ICE because that’s also bad for us. OK, Tuesday night thoughts are complete. Bonne Nuit! ❤️ #dirtydozen #ewg #themoreyouknow
I honestly think the credit card comparison may be an exaggeration, but even so, I think the emerging consequences of microplastics for the environment and for our health are looking a bit worrisome, even though more research is needed. . You know I’m not an alarmist who jumps on just any bandwagon, but I’m starting to be a bit concerned. . Maybe that’s because we know that microplastics are everywhere - we eat, drink, and breathe them. It’s like, you literally can’t get away from microplastics, even if you try. . My beloved Nalgene bottle, plastic packaging, even my sweater from Target all contribute microplastics to my environment. . We can’t even draw a line in the sand with microplastics because there isn’t a lot of research around the effects of microplastics in humans, and safe levels of microplastics have not yet been established. . This is because it’s exceptionally hard to measure microplastics in the environment, and it’s also hard to establish causation between microplastics and negative health outcomes. We know they probably have an effect one way or another on our health, but we don’t know exactly what, and most importantly, we don’t know how much microplastic it takes. . Still, it’s probably a good idea to reduce your exposure - especially from sources that can easily be changed or eliminated. For example: . Using glass storage containers and water bottles Not heating food in plastic Swapping out plastic cutting boards for wooden ones Avoiding food sold in plastic or using plastic bags for your food. Vacuuming more often to remove dust containing microplastics from the air . For a lot more on microplastics AND PFAS (different things, similar issues), see my post on my site! PMID: 37220346
The call is coming from inside the house. I have no desire to be an alarmist, but note how many things are currently in play or being talked about.
Yes — according to “60 Minutes.” Don’t panic when you watch this. What’s being said here is confronting (even a little alarmist), but it’s coming from neuroscientists who are now able to measure changes in the brain. Keep reading — there’s some good news about our brains further down. This is no longer a fringe conversation, and it’s time to pay attention. It’s hard not to watch this and feel the concern when you hear terms like “digital dementia” and see how quickly behaviour is shifting. But this is where it’s important to stay grounded. Because while segments like this are designed to capture attention, the underlying science is steady and well established. The brain develops in response to its environment — especially in childhood, when attention systems, emotional regulation, and identity are still forming. Fast, high-frequency, highly stimulating inputs train the brain differently to slower, real-world experiences. And we’re starting to see the effects of that more clearly. Here is the good news: The brain isn’t fixed. It responds to change. Which means when the environment shifts, the brain shifts with it. Inputs shape the brain. Pace shapes attention. Habits shape everything. Good nutrition knits it all together. We don’t need to panic. But we do need to become aware. Small changes, repeated daily, shape long-term outcomes. We are in a position of power, we get to choose how we use tech and introduce it to our children and I invite every person reading this to see it that way. I’m a mum who cares deeply about how children’s brains and nervous systems develop in a fast, overstimulating world. That doesn’t make me anti-tech. It means I’m thoughtful about how it fits into healthy development — rather than letting it quietly take the lead. Come join the calm-tech movement @bandii.au. We can raise the vibration together. 🌼 #tech #children #parenting #education #dementia

#alarmist maybe… or #prescient … #whitehouse thoughts?
1️⃣ The Credit Thief: Presents your idea in the meeting like it’s theirs. ⚡ SAY THIS: “I’m glad my proposal is getting traction. Let me add some context since I developed it...” 👉Do it in the moment. Every time. 2️⃣ The False Alarmist: Treats small things like a 5-alarm fire that has to be addressed RIGHT NOW. ⚡ ASK THIS: “What happens if this waits until tomorrow?” or “Help me understand the risk you’re most worried about.” 👉This helps them distinguish between real urgency and their anxiety. 3️⃣ The Time Vampire: Wants to “pick your brain” and it turns into an hour of free coaching. ⚡ SAY THIS: “I’ve got 10 minutes now, or we can schedule something later this week.” 👉Set the boundary at the beginning, not when you’re 40 minutes in. 4️⃣ The Subtle Underminer: Discredits you or plants doubt about your work in meetings. ⚡ SAY THIS: “I’m curious why you’re bringing that up now. Can we discuss this after the meeting?” 👉Then privately: “I noticed you questioned my approach in front of the team. If you have concerns, we should discuss them directly first.” 5️⃣ The Urgency Addict: “I need this ASAP” for shit that sits on their desk for weeks. ⚡ SAY THIS: “I can get this to you by [realistic timeline]. If that doesn’t work, I need to loop in [manager] about where this fits with my other priorities.” 👉Their poor planning or lack of communication isn’t your emergency. 6️⃣ The Meeting Hijacker: Talks over you, redirects the conversation, makes it about them. ⚡ SAY THIS: “I wasn’t finished. As I was saying...” Then continue exactly where you left off. 👉Do not let them steamroll you into silence. 7️⃣ The Energy Drainer: Constantly venting, complaining, pulling you into drama spirals. ⚡ DO THIS: Help them quickly switch to solutions. Say: “That sounds frustrating. Have you talked to [person] about it directly?” 👉Don’t become an emotional dumping ground. Keep redirecting and they’ll learn to take it elsewhere. — 🎇 Want all of these scripts plus more for tough manager and meeting dynamics too? You probably have a lot of questions so I’m here for them. The first two answers are yes that was me barking and simulating a threat. 🤣 And yes Elfie Fay sounds like a bath duck.
At a subscriber-exclusive event, @postopinions columnist David Ignatius spoke about the threat of Iranian drones, which have targeted troops on U.S. bases across the Middle East. “I don’t mean to sound alarmist. People have to think about a future in which Iranian drones, fired maybe by proxies from places all over, will be something that people have to worry about anytime there’s a big public gathering,” Ignatius added.
