In the coming days I will be sharing some curatorial perspectives about Ibrahim Mahama's site-oriented installation in Osnabrück, Germany. The wrapping of the former department store, Galeria Kaufhof, is the first component of the research and exhibition project which takes place between Osnabrück and Tamale in Ghana. This snippet is from a conversation that came up about how Mahama's practice comes to terms with the structural segregation between where/how art is made and where/how art is encountered (with consequences for who gets to be part of this process or not) as a result of the commodification of art. Hosted by @fca_ghana , @anima.axolotl, @adwoaaaaaaa and @bewongfatric Visiting artists like @kofiagorsor and @nyornuwofia , @gallery1957 which runs a show by @jeremiahquarshie and doing some historical research, running into the most ridiculous advertising for christianity, listening to a talk by @nyu_accra with @zukiswa.wanner, meeting a dog named Kafka and enoying a very thorough tour in #jamestown running into the boxing world champion #abigailquartey and works by @charityderbyakeiti , tour organized by the @jamestown_community_centre . Creativity is a person’s ablity to express their selves in their Freedom and Victoria took this word for her edition of #TheComeUp Victoria Akpene Ocloo @akpeneocloovictoria is a Ghanaian artist, who’s works are majorly in area’s of painting and prints making. She in a constant search for the best way to interpret the ideas of her self and the world she lives in, she considers the human skin as both a medium of artistic expression and a living surface. Her works, which are of the idea of using the skin as canvas upon which the figures with the pan turned upside down on their head hide their faces from the viewer showcasing a captivating fusion of culture, symbolism and visual artistry.
