Blind contour drawing isn’t about perfection, it’s about presence. You keep your eyes only on what you’re drawing, never the page, never lifting your pencil. It’s awkward at first… then suddenly, it becomes mindful magic. 🌿 Beth Kennedy (@bethemilykennedy) shares how this practice helps artists reconnect with seeing, not just drawing, as part of her mentorship “Beauty of the Everyday.” 🎨 🪴 Learn to: – Draw what you see, not what you think you see – Embrace play and imperfection – Find inspiration in your home, garden, and everyday life If your drawings look like squiggles, you’re doing it right. 💛 Join Beth’s mentorship group for aspiring artists by going to the link in our bio @matrius.official #MindfulArt #BlindContourDrawing #ArtMentorship #BethKennedy #BeautyOfTheEveryday #CreativeFlow #ArtPractice #StillLifeArt #BotanicalArt #SlowArt #CreativeProcess

Artist Iris Bakker uses a technique called blind contour drawing, where you focus only on the subject and never glance down at what you’re creating. The result? Loose, expressive portraits full of personality, imperfections, and raw emotion. It’s less about precision, more about presence. Would you dare to try it? 👀 #blinddrawing #irisbakker #artpractice #portraits #artreel #asfcarousels #drawingchallenge #contemporaryart

Someone asked me if you close your eyes For Blind contour drawings. You don’t close your eyes, instead you only look at your subject matter while you draw and Not your paper. This exercise believe it or not, strengthens your observational skills - all the while making these fun whimsical drawings 🤪This is a blind contour drawing of myself as I looked in the mirror and drew, without looking at my paper 🤭🤓 . One of the exercises in my drawing masterclass “the Structure of seeing” currently in progress this summer. . #blindcontourdrawing #drawingmasterclass #structureofseeing

BLIND CONTOUR DRAWING- it’s blind because you mustn’t look at the paper! At all! Not even a tiny peek… It’s a brilliant way to warm up before spending hours on a finished drawing which might get too laboured. Sometimes the blind contour drawings look mad but don’t worry about that. This is a hand/eye/brain information gathering exercise. Watch to the end to make sure I’m not cheating! I’ve done so many of these that mine often turn out quite recognisable but don’t worry at all if yours don’t. They are just perfect to get you limbered up. Oh and switch hands too- your non dominant hand wants a go! Enjoy the marks and stay in the moment. Your hand eye and brain are all working together and one isn’t racing ahead of the other.

If you’ve been following my latest series, you had to know this was coming. 🙌 Ah yes, Blockbuster Video—the heartbeat of every 80s teenager’s Friday night. You weren’t just a store; you were a social hub, where we debated over The Breakfast Club vs. Back to the Future, grabbed Dirty Dancing for slumber parties, and picked The Lost Boys on date night for a “scary” excuse to grab his arm. You didn’t just give us movies; you gave us moments. And while the tapes have been rewound for the last time, you’ll forever live rent-free in this Blind Contour Drawing. 🙈✍️ Thanks for the memories. 🎥 🍿 💙 [Feeling all sentimental now?
