See a previous reel to see the inside of the actual guest rooms or rondavels . We spent three unforgettable nights at Umlani Bushcamp, and honestly, it was pure magic. This isn’t just a place to sleep between game drives — it is the safari. From the moment we arrived, we could feel it… that blend of wilderness, warmth, and wonder that makes you forget there’s a world beyond the bush. The camp sits right along a dried-up riverbed, with a watering hole just across from the pool and bar area. That means the wildlife comes to you. All day long, elephants, zebra, kudu, giraffe, and other wildlife wander by as you sip coffee or a cold drink. You don’t have to leave camp to see Africa at her wildest. And when night falls, things get even more thrilling. Hyenas laugh in the distance, lions sometimes pass through camp, and leopards are known to pay surprise visits. Because of that, guests aren’t allowed to walk alone after dark — you’re escorted safely to your cozy thatched hut, or rondavel, by flashlight and starlight. Aside from cozy bush style luxury and wildlife at camp, morning and afternoon game drives are included so you can experience even more animals. During the afternoon, you can swim or go for a guided bush walk. Heck, there is even a treehouse for those who’d want to sleep over a waterhole with only stars as a roof! Between the incredible wildlife and the people who make you feel like family, Umlani is the kind of place that stays in your heart. The staff couldn’t be kinder — warm smiles, thoughtful touches, and meals that are nothing short of elegant. The food alone deserves its own round of applause! If you ever dream of a safari where you can relax and still feel part of the wild — this is it. A place where elephants trade the pool for the waterhole, where the sounds of nature are your playlist, and where Africa feels close enough to touch. A lion kill. At the edge of camp. In the dark. This is what happens in the Serengeti after the fire burns low and the camp goes quiet. Lions do not rest between sunset and sunrise. They reorganize. The pride moves, reads the wind, and when conditions align, the bush delivers a moment like this: a buffalo kill within metres of a tented camp, observed from inside a vehicle with the engine off. The sound is what stays with you. Low feeding, the occasional shift of weight, the dry grass underfoot. Nothing dramatic. Just the ecosystem doing what it has always done, indifferent to the tent beside it. This is not an unusual outcome in wild areas. It is an unusual privilege to witness it.
