When visiting Canandaigua, don’t forget to walk down to City Pier to see the historic boat house community!
“The City Pier was built in 1848, and the first boathouses were built during the 1850's.
Simple wooden boathouses contained mostly small skits while larger ones housed sculling shells, sailing and steam yachts. By 1888, over eighty boathouses were along the pier and in the "steam" basin. In 1903, the pier was enlarged to accommodate train and trolley tracks to service the steamboats transporting farm produce and passengers along the lake. At that time the village built the finger piers to accommodate the
boathouses, which were either moved across the ice or demolished and rebuilt in their location. This was done in the winter of 1903-1904. Soon after. The Boathouse
Owners association was formed to help protect and entorce the strict rules and regulations prohibiting people from living in the boathouses or using them as cottages. With their rustic nature, theyare an attraction for artists, tourists
and photographers and remain a unique and picturesque reminder of our heritage. In 1990, the City of Canandaigua added them to the Canandaigua Historic District to preserve their heritage.”

I’m out in Canandaigua checking out Finger Lakes Plates for the first time! 🍽️🔥 I got a ton of tags telling me to try this spot, and I can see why—they have 20 different plates on the menu! That’s the most I’ve ever seen in one place.
While chatting with the owner, Shane, he mentioned one of his favorites is the Big Mac Plate—and I had to give it a go. It’s got crispy, seasoned fries, mac salad, a cheeseburger, special sauce, lettuce, onions, and pickles. Basically, all the Big Mac flavors, but on a plate. And let me tell you—this thing is delicious.
But here’s my question… at what point do loaded fries become a plate? 🤔 In my book, it all comes down to the Meat Hot—add it, and it’s officially a plate. So of course, I had to put my theory to the test. I grabbed a side of their Meat Hot, added it to the Big Mac Plate, and… WOW. Absolute game-changer. 🔥🔥
