No sir, it’s actually oil paint, TRADITIONALLY PAINTED on @ampersand_art CLAYBORD. A top-notch, very smooth, and rigid panel I might add. 🙂 my fav 🥰 Accusations Over the years: FIRST - that’s not a drawing, IT’S A PHOTOGRAPH NEXT - that’s not traditional, IT’S DIGITAL NOW - you didn’t paint that, AI DID WHO THE F@#K DO YOU THINK WAS REFERENCED FOR THE AI MODELS? 🧐 Sorry about that, I had to let the fangs play a little. 😇 Anyway, prints are available, the captain here is almost sold out. I haven’t twirled for you guys in a bit, but we’ve returned in full force. 💪💃 I’ve been quietly creating - diligently working on commissions and show pieces. Here we have a barn owl among an abstract patch of daisies, blanketed in mountain mist and bathed in early morning sunrise. I have to say, I LOVE IT ❤️👄❤️ This BEAUT was painted for the newest gallery I’ll be working with. I probably can’t reveal those details just yet, but soon enough - I’m excited! 😁 25 limited edition mounted prints will be available. No, a hairdryer won’t help! 💨 caption for more!👇 Just finished this teeny tiny commission painting, ‘The Daffodil and the Bee’, 5x5”, oil on acrylic on claybord panel, April 4, 2025 🌼🐝 Here are the steps I took so this painting could be varnished & shipped in the shortest possible timeframe: 1️⃣ Paint on a more absorbent surface. All grounds (including acrylic gesso) have different levels of absorbency. Oil painters tend to enjoy a less absorbent surface (oils can be pulled down in a process called ‘sinking’) but carefully using a surface with a little absorbency will speed dry time. 2️⃣ Use acrylics in the initial layers. You can paint oils on top of acrylics (not the other way around!). Although you should wait for the acrylics to be fully cured before painting on top (even acrylics take about a week to a month or more depending on thickness). 3️⃣Use pigments that dry quicker eg. earth colours & avoid slow dry colours like cadmium’s or blacks. Every colour has a different dry time so utilize your fastest drying colours. 4️⃣Use older paint which was more exposed to the air over the years, as its already started oxidizing it dries faster than brand new. 5️⃣Use a quick dry oil medium aka. an alkyd medium like Liquin or Galkyd. 6️⃣Only use paints with linseed oil as a binder - most paints are but lighter colours like white use less yellowing oils so use ‘Underpainting White’ instead as it uses linseed. Find out the oil is in your paint by reading the ingredients on the paint tube label. 7️⃣Paint in thin layers not thick, textured, impasto strokes. 8️⃣Cure if in a light, dry, well ventilated room - if possible the warmest room in your house. Heat helps dry oil paintings faster, forgers have been known to pop them in the oven (don’t recommend!)
