Dr. Ari Greenwald, a devoted husband and father of four, and emergency medicine specialist from Toronto, Canada, played a vital leadership role in strengthening Israels emergency medical system during the Iron Swords War in partnership with Nefesh B’Nefesh. A respected physician at Mackenzie Health, Medical Director of Toronto Hatzalah, and Assistant Clinical Professor at McMaster University, Dr. Greenwald felt a deep responsibility to help following the October 7th attacks. He brought his clinical expertise and calm leadership to Shamir Medical Center, where he worked tirelessly to provide skilled, and compassionate care to patients, returning to volunteer on multiple occasions. Beyond his clinical contributions, Dr. Greenwald helped lead emergency preparedness initiatives-training IDF medical reserves and hospital teams. His presence at Shamir served not only to expand clinical capacity but also to boost morale and mentor younger medical staff in a time of national crisis. Together with four fellow physicians, Dr. Greenwald also co-founded "Milu-EM", a global volunteer network of over 250 emergency physicians committed to supporting Israels emergency medical system. In cooperation with the Ministry of Health, and the Israel Association of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Greenwald traveled across the country to discuss the needs of emergency departments. @milu_e_m then helped recruit and vet volunteer doctors with the skillsets each hospital required, providing essential reinforcement to over 20 hospitals, and laying the groundwork for long-term collaboration and international partnerships. IAABO mourns the loss of Boyd Sands, a Life Member of IAABO. Boyd was the devoted husband to Fran for 67 years and a proud father to five children, sixteen grandchildren, and twenty-eight great-grandchildren. He peacefully passed away on January 17 at the age of 88. Boyd’s legacy lives on through his family and the countless lives he touched within the IAABO community. His spirit, kindness, and dedication will be remembered always. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Fran, the Sands family, and all who had the privilege of knowing Boyd. 🕊️
