Here is the Dull Skin Routine (AM + PM) for my 30+ Gang
🌞 MORNING
💧 Hydrating Serum/Moisturizer (to keep skin hydrated)
🍊 Vitamin C Serum (or if you don’t want Vitamin C, use a TXA or Kojic Acid serum instead)
🧴 Sunscreen SPF 50 (non-negotiable!)
🌙 NIGHT
Cleanser
💧 Hydrating Serum/Moisturizer
🌙 Retinoid/Retinal (start 2–3 nights a week if you’re a beginner, then gradually increase as tolerated)
Remember: Dull skin usually happens because of dehydration, sun damage, and slower skin renewal. No product gives overnight results—stay consistent for 8–12 weeks, and don’t skip sunscreen, or the rest of your routine won’t work as effectively.
Save this routine for later & share it with someone struggling with dull skin.
(Dull skin after 30 )
Am I the only one who thought exfoliation would fix everything? 🫣
My whole teen years was all about scrubbing and more scrubbing! Each time, the results were only instant softer smooth skin but nothing really changed in reality 😭
Turns out, my skin didn’t need more exfoliation—it needed more hydration.
When your skin is dehydrated, the barrier gets weaker. So even gentle exfoliation can leave your skin feeling rough, tight, irritated, and somehow even bumpier.
What actually helped me:
💧 Hydrating toner/essence everyday
💧 A barrier-supporting moisturizer at night
💧 Exfoliating less but in a regular routine way. 1-2 days weekly is enough.
This change reflect in the long run. But you’ll see improvements for sure.
So if your texture gets worse every time you exfoliate, stop adding more actives and acids in your routine and start following a simple routine that has everything.
🔗Follow my account & Comment “texture” and I’ll share my fav hydrating and exfoliating combo for oily skin 💕
Not all dull skin is pigmentation.
Sometimes skin looks dull because of dehydration.
Sometimes because of excess oil.
Sometimes because uneven texture creates tiny shadows on the skin.
And this serum is interesting because it targets multiple types of dullness at the same time ✨
• Dehydration-refraction dullness — where dehydrated skin loses bounce and stops reflecting light evenly
• Oil-film dullness — where excess oil makes skin look greasy instead of glowy
• Shadow dullness — where pores and uneven texture create micro-shadows on the skin
• Mild pigment dullness — from post-acne marks and uneven skin tone
Dot and Key strawberry Niacinamide serum is not just a niacinamide serum.
It’s a hydration-first niacinamide serum formulated for better oil control without making the skin feel stripped.
The formula combines:
• 10% Niacinamide
• Witch Hazel for oil-balancing support
• Hyaluronic Acid + Aquaxyl + Amino Acids for hydration support
• Allantoin + Betaine for skin comfort
• Silicone smoothing ingredients that give the skin that soft-focus, smoother finish instantly
And the pink colour comes from Vitamin B12 💗
Honestly, this feels less like a harsh “oil-control serum” and more like a skin-quality serum for oily-to-combination skin.

Ditch that AHA BHA and go mild. I know mild exfoliation may not deliver that instant wow effect that a strong AHA BHA gives , but in the long run this has improved my skin texture immensely ✨
Here’s what I use and how :
- Anua Heartleaf toner pad : I use this almost everyday unless my barrier is weak. Usually after shower, on clean dry skin I use it, followed by my usual serum , sunscreen routine.
- Azelaic + Retinal : I use this combo 3-4 nights weekly. If my skin has any incoming acne or if there’s comedones, I use the ordinary azelaic with my BOJ/k-secret retinal eye cream all over face.
- Mixsoon Bean Essence: This is a controversial product but I find it amazing for pre makeup skin prep. I massage my dry skin with this essence for few minutes and wash off with plain water. Skin feels instant smooth and whatever makeup I apply, it applies like butter! 🧈
- Axis Y PHA Glow Peel: New in my routine but it’s really good especially for sensitive skin. I use it once a week at night after double cleansing, on dry skin . Just apply a thin layer except the eye and lip areas and wash off with warm water after 10mins ! No burning or peeling and absolutely safe for beginners!
That’s all the things that worked amazing for skin texture.

Your skin usually doesn’t look dull because one product is missing.
It’s because your routine is treating tan, dehydration, buildup, and pigmentation like the same problem.

☀️ Morning routine
Hydrating layer → pigment serum → moisturiser → sunscreen
If your skin feels:
• dull + rough → add gentle exfoliation weekly
• uneven + patchy → focus on pigment serums
• tight + shiny at the same time → hydrate more, not less
🌙 Night routine guide
2–3 nights/week → pigment treatment
1–2 nights/week → exfoliation
Remaining nights → recovery + hydration only
Your skin usually looks “clearer” when buildup, dehydration, and pigment are all handled separately 🤍
Follow for skincare routines that actually make sense.
These are some reasons why your face looks dull and dark after skincare!!
1. Incorrect Moisturizer: Using a heavy cream on oily skin can clog pores and leave your face feeling greasy. Opt for lighter, gel-based formulas.
2. Sunscreen: Even indirect sunlight can cause tanning, especially if you skip sunscreen. Without protection, skincare results reverse by sun damage.
3. Overdo with skincare: A complicated routine might not be necessary, particularly in humid climates. Do not overwhelm your skin.
4. Lack of Sunscreen: A thin layer of sunscreen won’t cut it. Apply a generous amount to ensure proper protection.
5. Actives: Powerful ingredients like Vitamin C and AHAs can leave skin sensitive to the sun. So Don’t even think of ditching sunscreen even when staying indoors.
6. SPF Myth Busted: The SPF 15 in makeup or moisturizer won’t do for daily sun protection. Use a dedicated sunscreen with a higher SPF for optimal defense.

Want to know how to use correctly?
Skin damage, inflammation rashes, pustules, hyperpigmentation, large pores, cystic acne, ashy & dry skin, dullness, all these things had become my reality.
No matter what I did, my skin would feel good.
I cried & got frustrated, as no products worked.
Then took some time - to understand what was actually happening with me.
Understood that I was using too many products:
- my skin started rejecting products
- i wasn’t using products correctly & consistently
- everything backfired
Follow me as I breakdown what I did without using way too many chemicals all in 1 month.
I started using @beminimalist__ glycolic acid toner twice a week, and layer it up with a good moisturiser! I use one from @neutrogena.india hydro boost for the hydration!
The toner helps with gentle exfoliation and moisturiser engances face radiance!

5 THINGS TO DO IF YOUR SKIN LOOKS DULL ✨
• Stop over-exfoliating — irritated skin often looks dull, not glowy.
• Add a hydrating serum before your moisturizer.
• Make sure you're applying enough sunscreen every day.
• Use products that target hydration before products that promise "instant glow."
• Focus on repairing your skin barrier if your skin feels tight, rough, or irritated.
Dull skin isn't always a sign that you need stronger products. Sometimes your skin just needs more hydration and less stress 🤍
