Easy reminder - Your watch doesn’t know everything!
This run felt so EASY!
My breathing was calm. My body relaxed and it felt like I could have kept going forever!
Then I looked at my watch just after halfway and my heart rate was 170bpm!
This is a perfect example of why we shouldn’t always use metrics. Heart rate can be a useful tool, but it’s not the only measure of effort and sometimes it’s just wrong.
Wrist-based HR readings can be affected by all sorts of things - poor sensor contact, fatigue/stress, recovery status and just general device inaccuracies
This is why it is so important to not rely on one metric alone.
Perceived effort matters. Your breathing matters and how your body feels matters.
Easy runs should FEEL easy. If you become obsessed with forcing a certain HR number, you can actually end up running unnaturally slowly or overthinking every session.
Use the data as guidance - not as something that overrides your body completely.

Easy run para empezar el sábado ☀️💕
Pd: La media maratón me está pasando factura 😅😂

You can follow every interval session perfectly and still struggle to get faster.
The problem may begin on your easy days.
When easy runs become moderately hard, your body carries more fatigue into your speed sessions. This reduces your ability to complete each interval at the right intensity.
Easy running still develops your aerobic fitness.
You do not need to push the pace to earn those benefits.
Keep your easy runs relaxed enough to support recovery. You should be able to speak in full sentences with controlled breathing.
When interval day arrives, aim for a hard but sustainable effort.
Do not sprint the first repetition.
Try to complete every repetition at a similar pace. The final interval should look controlled rather than desperate.
Respect the planned recovery between repetitions. Longer recovery supports speed and power. Shorter recovery places more demand on speed endurance.
Fuel before demanding sessions when needed. Choose gentle hills for hill intervals. Use flat ground for sessions focused on leg speed.
Your hard days can only work when your easy days stay easy.

If you run over 20 minutes for 5K, your easy runs are probably too fast.
Easy days exist for two reasons:
• Build your aerobic base
• Allow proper recovery
If every run sits at the top of zone 2, fatigue builds and your quality sessions suffer.
Slow down so the hard days can work.

Lots of noise around zone two and easy running, and people trying to blind you with the importance of it (me included) but here’s it explained simply - I hope
Yes we know the science is there for us nerds and we love it. We can talk about mitochondrial density until the cows come home, but why does it matter to the non nerds.

To run FAST, you NEED to run slow.
Most of my weekly mileage is comprised of easy running, around 1.5 to 2+ mins slower than my marathon pace. There are no trophies at the finish line for overcooking your easy runs. Running truly easy lets you train more, recover better, and nail the workouts that matter.
Easy runs won’t make the highlight reel. That’s why you have to fall in love with the process. Those simple, boring miles done while no one’s watching are what will fuel your next breakthrough.

Bakmak mı önemli, görmek mi?
Her gün baktığım kapının sarı olduğunu o gün gerçekten gördüm.

How slow should you run for Zone 2 training?
Honestly — sometimes REALLY slow.
Zone 2 isn't a pace. It's an intensity, which means your pace can change depending on fitness, heat, hills, fatigue, stress and even time away from running.
At my fittest my Zone 2 has been around 5:50/km. Before my holiday it was around 6:15/km. After two weeks off, my Zone 2 run today averaged 7:51/km.
Same runner. Completely different pace.
That's why comparing your Zone 2 pace to somebody else's can be completely pointless.
What's YOUR current Zone 2 pace? Drop it below — I want to see how different everyone's is 👇

Easy running is all about ✨effort✨
Start paying attention to how your body feels during running! Your watch can’t tell you that
Don’t get hung up on pace during your easy runs. In fact, I rarely look at my pace on my watch during these runs and I encourage my runners not to pay much attention to it either
Easy running should feel like:
✔️ A 3/10 on the RPE scale
✔ You can hold a conversation or sing several lines of a song without gasping for air
✔ Breathing is controlled
✔ You finish feeling like you could keep going if you had to
Your running foundation is built on easy running, respect those easy runs!
I’m curious to know what your experience is like with easy running! I’ll share mine first in the comments!
Speaking full sentences is often used as a test for an easy run - but it can be easy to misinterpret.
There is a difference between being able to say a full sentence and being able to have a relaxed conversation without controlling your breathing, choosing shorter phrases or waiting for the right moment to speak.
Nose breathing is not a perfect intensity test either. Well-trained runners may still manage it at a higher effort. But for most runners, it is harder to convince yourself that the effort is easy when nasal breathing no longer feels natural and comfortable.
During an easy run, you shouldn’t have to force it. You should be able to breathe through your nose continuously without air hunger or the constant urge to open your mouth.
Heat, hills, allergies and a blocked nose can affect the test, so always consider the conditions too.
Can you breathe comfortably through your nose for your whole easy run?

Your easy runs shouldn’t feel like a race you’re barely surviving.
If every run leaves you exhausted, slowing down could help you train more consistently—and show up fresher when it’s time to run fast.
Here’s how 👇
1️⃣ Use the talk test.
You should be able to speak in full sentences. If you’re gasping between words, ease off.
2️⃣ Start easier than you think.
Give yourself the first 5–10 minutes to settle in. You don’t need to prove your fitness in the first mile.
3️⃣ Stop protecting a number on your watch.
Heat, hills, stress, and poor sleep can make your usual pace feel harder. Match the effort, not yesterday’s speed.
4️⃣ Take walk breaks when needed.
Walking can help keep an easy session easy. It’s a training tool—not a failed run.
5️⃣ Build consistency before adding more.
Choose a schedule you can repeat comfortably. Add time gradually instead of making every run longer AND faster.
6️⃣ Leave room to recover.
Finish most easy runs feeling like you could do a little more. You don’t need to empty the tank to make progress.
7️⃣ Remember: easy running is only part of the picture.
Once you’ve built a consistent, comfortable routine, gradually introducing faster work can help develop speed. Keep easy days easy around it.
The goal isn’t to become the fastest runner on every training run.
It’s to build training you can recover from, repeat, and improve on.
