🤯 Alien Emergence: Watch a DRAGONFLY be BORN! Nature's most incredible transformation, caught on camera! 🌿 This is the moment a dragonfly (or possibly a damselfly) breaks free from its underwater nymph shell (called an exuvia) to take its first breath as an aerial predator. The life cycle of the Odonata order is truly mind-blowing. Wait for the full wings to unfurl! (Part 2 soon!) Location: Rice Paddy / Wetland (or wherever you filmed it) Sound Suggestion: Epic, suspenseful, or a dramatic orchestral score. #Dragonfly #Damselfly #InsectsOfInstagram #NatureTransformation #WildlifePhotography #Odonata #Molting #Ecdysis #AmazingNature #Bioluminescence #ReelsViral #NatureReels #InsectLovers #MacroPhotography
Centipedes grow by shedding their old exoskeleton similar to reptiles, this process is called “Molting” and not many people get to see this because they usually do this deep underground! Beautiful footage by @ngocphotograph Thank you for sharing Trãn. Be sure to extend your support by visiting this beautiful gallery and photographer. Cicadas, while known for their unique song, also undergo an intriguing molting process. This transformation, called ecdysis, involves the insect shedding its old exoskeleton to emerge as an adult. The left-behind exoskeleton, or exuviae, often clings to trees, providing a ghostly reminder of the cicada’s metamorphosis. Insect studies emphasize the significance of molting, as it is not just a physical transformation but also crucial for the insect’s growth, development, and survival. By observing the cicada’s molting process, researchers gain insights into the intricate workings of insect physiology and their adaptability in nature. #cicada #molting #ecdysis #insecttransformation #naturewonders #macrophoto #insectlife #cicadamolting #naturefacts #metamorphosis #education #nature #naturereel #naturevideos #learnmore
There’s nothing quite like the magic of a perfect shed! 🐍✨ Snakes shed to accommodate their growing bodies—it’s like they’re literally outgrowing their old clothes. This process is called ecdysis. As it approaches, their colors fade and their eyes turn a cloudy blue while a lubricating fluid builds up between the old skin and the new layer beneath. When the moment comes, they rub against rough surfaces and the skin peels off inside-out, revealing fresh, vibrant scales underneath. A beautiful sign of a healthy, growing snake—and one of the coolest wonders of reptile care to witness up close! 💫 #snakeshedding #ecdysis #reptilecare #snakelovers #reptilesofinstagram #wildlife #naturemagic #animalfacts #reels #trendingreels #furryfriends #furryfriendsforever
Post shed refluffing 🐛 A very fluffy tiger moth caterpillar (Eupseudosoma involutum) molting its skin and all the hairs that come with it! After shuffling out of its old exoskeleton, this caterpillar inflates air into dome-like structures at the base of each cluster of setae (insect hairs). This results in a very dramatic moment in which all of its new setae simultaneously poof out in every direction! This caterpillar doesn’t possess venomous spines or seem to have itchy hairs - its dense setae are likely a physical barrier against smaller predators like parasitoid insects! It does bear a striking resemblance to the highly venomous southern flannel caterpillar (Megalopyge opercularis) though, which would certainly make larger predators think twice about eating it! Most of the molting footage is sped up, but the setae poofing moment is in real time. This was also an incredible moment that visitors got to watch happen before their very eyes during open hours at @the_caterpillar_lab a few weekends ago. If only I had recorded their gasps of amazement to overlay during the moment of refluffing! #fluffy #caterpillar #molting #ecdysis #tigermoth
Cecropia caterpillar shedding its skin! A moment we sometimes wait hours just to watch - the inevitable yet often unseen process of a caterpillar molting its exoskeleton in order to grow larger! And what better caterpillar to demonstrate than the magnificently colorful larva of our cecropia moth, Hyalophora cecropia. The most reliable way we can determine that a caterpillar is getting close to shedding (aka pre-shed) is by looking at its head. At the beginning of the video, look at the dark head capsule of the cecropia and you can see that it appears undersized and oddly pushed forward. At this point in time, the new and larger head of the caterpillar is fully developed underneath, and the old head is empty and just waiting to be popped off during the shed. Before every open hours and @the_caterpillar_lab traveling program, we hand pick pre-shed caterpillars that we believe will shed in front of visitors so we can share these unbelievable moments! Figuring out the exact timing of when a caterpillar shed is actually kicking off can be tricky sometimes, but the key moment of no return is the appearance of thick white lines that start to grow horizontally across the caterpillar’s body. Those white lines are actually the internal breathing tubes (tracheal tubes) that caterpillars shed along with their exoskeleton! Look closely and you can see how these tracheal tubes are pulled out from the new external breathing holes, known as spiracles! Once initiated, caterpillar molting (aka ecdysis) is a dramatic and rapid process. It’s not long until you can see the exoskeleton split towards the front, creating an exit for the caterpillar to shimmy its way out of the old skin. The videos are sped up for ease of viewing, but the entire shed only took a few minutes! Towards the end of the video, you can see our cecropia caterpillar sitting idly by both its shed skin and old head capsule. After all of that work, the caterpillar takes some time to allow the fresh exoskeleton to harden. As soon as that’s handled, the caterpillar is eager to begin eating again in order to grow into its new, much roomier skin! #caterpillar #cecropia #shedding #molting #ecdysis
CRAB MOULTING FROM IT’S SHELL 🦀|| आज से पहले आपने किसी केकड़े (CRAB) को ऐसा करते नहीं देखा होगा 😳 . . . #insta #viralreels #crab #moulting #ecdysis #arthropods #kekda Crabs, like other crustaceans, have a hard exoskeleton that doesn’t grow with them. So, as they get bigger, they need to shed their old shell and form a new, larger one. This shedding process is known as ecdysis.
Scolopendra hainanum “Black” (Black Tiger Leg Centipede) Molting Time-Lapse — i’ve been wanting to record another molt lately and i can’t think of a better species to finally catch in the process, look at how vibrant that blue is, it’s insane!
