Colorful rainbow weavings from my Art Exploration class. Kiddos ages 5-10, with the majority on the younger side. Everyone did really well and powered through the struggles!! I remember standing inside the Gee's Bend quilt studio in Alabama, talking with artist Mary Ann Pettway, looking at work made from scraps of clothing, sewn together by improvisation. The beauty of what they make from exactly what they have is so powerful. So this week inside Studio ARRT Club, we learned about the Gee's Bend quilters and their bold compositions, their use of shapes, and then we made our own quilt collages from paper. Allie the alligator spotted a butterfly (one of her greatest fears😆). We have fun noticing the unexpected whether you're a puppet or you're five! As a mobile art studio, I am always looking for different ways to transport large, unusual, and experimental weaving experiences for students.
