Em 1924, a estação de repetição em Mount Everest começou a captar sinais fracos em código Morse durante uma expedição britânica. As transmissões eram curtas, irregulares, como tentativas desesperadas de contato. O problema é que vinham da encosta norte. Naquele ponto da montanha, não havia equipe alguma. Anos antes, George Mallory e Andrew Irvine haviam desaparecido exatamente naquela região durante a tentativa de chegar ao topo. Nunca foram vistos descendo. Os sinais captados coincidiam com a frequência usada pela expedição deles. Mas aquilo acontecia anos depois. Operadores registraram as tentativas de contato. Tentaram responder. O sinal cessou após alguns minutos e nunca mais voltou. Nenhum outro grupo estava na montanha naquele período. Nenhum transmissor ativo foi encontrado depois.
