Do Hand Pollination Early Morning 🌿 | Pointed Gourd Farming Tips #fypシ゚ #instagram #everyone #agriculture
🥶 FROST ANXIETY! 🥶
Last year, our first frost came on October 10th. This year, I’m really hoping we can make it to October 15th! 🤞
Every extra day these vines stay alive means better quality gourds, and we grow some excellent gourds! 🎃
At this point in the season, it becomes less about pests and disease and more about the F word… FROST. 😂❄️
Just keep growing, vines. Just keep growing.

🌸 Self-Pollination vs Cross-Pollination
Description:
🌱 Two ways plants transfer pollen!
🌸 Self-pollination → pollen reaches a stigma within the same flower or plant.
🐝 Cross-pollination → pollen moves between plants of the same species.
🧬 Cross-pollination generally increases genetic variation.
Both can lead to fertilization and seed formation. 🌱

Hand Pollination in Maize........
Snap the tassels off a few stalks and use them like feather dusters. Dust over the emerging silks at each ear. You'll be hand pollinating corn for about a week, so use your judgment as to how many tassels you snap per dusting. Start at the opposite ends of your rows each night to help equalize the distribution.

If you've had trouble growing pumpkins - try to raise your chances for a wonderful crop with Hand-Pollination.
𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙃𝙖𝙣𝙙-𝙋𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣?
𝑰𝒏 𝒂 𝑵𝒖𝒕𝒔𝒉𝒆𝒍𝒍:
By hand-pollinating the pumpkin, you can ensure your pumpkin grows into a healthy, beautiful pumpkin, while also decreasing the chances for bottom-end-rot or any unwanted cross-pollination.
𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗧𝗼 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲 (𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗱-𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻):
Hand-pollination is carried out at the time of day when squash flowers are normally open. They usually open just after dawn and remain open until early afternoon, though the exact timing and duration is influenced by environmental conditions.
Closing up the petals and tying the flower shut, ensures that there are no openings that pollinating insects can get through.
Re-sealing the female flower ensures that the seeds produced will have been fertilized through hand-pollination and not by insect pollination that could occur later on that same day, while the stigma is still receptive(this can cause the cross-pollination).
The petals will likely shrivel and fall off after fertilization is complete.
Hand-pollination can be done using just one male flower for each female flower, but transferring pollen from two or three male flowers to the receptive stigma of a female flower will effectively include more plants in the reproductive population.

*Unreadable Caption: "Rub the male stigmen onto the female stigma. Being mindful to get all the pollen off the male and onto the female. Then close the female back up to keep the pollen in place."*
