Diary of my journey🗒️ Anything that makes you feel good or makes you feel free can also make you feel bad and make you feel trapped. Dance used to be my life, I dedicated all of my time, all of my thoughts, all my energy to it for at least 18 years . Originally, It was making me feel free, allowing me to communicate through my body and express the depth of my being. It felt like a way better bias than using words which I had a very hard time to find and to be confident with. But I got trapped into my own game as it became a more and more of a serious thing into my life, as I decided that dance would be my life. I got trapped into the illusion of freedom, which was my search for perfection which I knew did not exist but didn’t want to let go of anyways. I did let myself become a victim of my lack of confidence, a victim of what I decided was not good enough. It became harder and harder to express myself out of the box of a choreographer or of a teacher dictating me what I should do or not do. Improvisation was something I could not access without heavy thinking and judging, without giving myself credibility for it. And as surprising as it can sound, it was comfortable to stay in that place where I was dictated what to do, dictated where I would fit etc… I in a way decided to become a victim, of course I was young and did not realize or even understand a glimpse of that. But my heart, my soulllll ! They were yearning for that first connection with dancing, the one that connected me to my greatest potential of walking closer to my soul. What you are « good » at should never define you. Life is not one thing, life is such a greatest mystery. Follow your heart and use your connections to step a bit closer to your soul. You are the one choosing to give credibility to what you do & what you express. Take that responsibility 🤍 With deep love, Maëv Lmk in the comments your thoughts and maybe What did your own journey with your passions teach you ? #improvisation #dancersjourney #taleofanotherhuman #dance #yoga
In my quest to broaden my understanding of dance, the past month or so has seen significantly fewer days devoted solely to technique practice. It has become a bit of a sore point when I consider that a proficiency in technique alone is a very poor measure of the quality of a dancer; that is, it hits a little too close to home because I often wonder if that is all I will be, in spite of yearning for more. I’m sure this sentiment cannot be unique to my experience, and while my expositions normally conclude on a more hopeful note, I don’t have much else to add. There are days where there is so much to say, and days where there is absolutely nothing left— and on those days, technique practice is a great comfort. I ended today’s session with some endurance / speed work, and this video was taken rather haphazardly right at the end. I see so many imperfections in it. But I also see so much joy and excitement and happiness and freedom from the things I cannot control, and that is, admittedly, far more important. Turns are also VERY fun after having chopped off all my hair. Also, I will have to redo this later today because I counted 49 turns and it’s very annoying that it’s one short of an even 50 #keepinitreal ** I do not own the rights to this music track: Mori Painjaniya by Ronkini Gupta and Ashish Ragwani** • • • • #kathak #indiandancerscommunity #dancersofinstagram #turns
The improviser 🛸 The improviser needs focus, needs to enjoy the moment, to be present… In life we need to be more present, less connected with the outside world, more connected with yourself 🕉️ Improvisation it’s a way of meditation

Dance is a tool To process To feel To express To call things in To let things go Not just something to perform But to live inside of as the moving story of your life
Flow state after a series of beautiful Sunday ( Back To Roots ) classes . Improvising with some tools I taught last month . We finished our last session with this song . Dedicating my improv to these beautiful dancers who make every Sunday so wholesome with their energy . We felt very watery and the conversations , the unique approach they share in the sessions brought so much depth to the movement and enhanced the awareness as a collective . When we step away from movement as performance, movement itself becomes a teacher. Moving fast, intense and loud can look and feel powerful. And it has its place. But when you slow the dance down, another journey begins. That’s where you start to experiment with the extent of your control, your power, and how you can carry that into more explosive moments. And that’s why it matters beyond movement. Because when everything is loud, busy and expressive it’s easy to hide. But in the pauses, in the space we don’t fill, in the moments with no performance, what’s underneath becomes visible. Allowing yourself to be seen. First by you. Then, by others you choose. To move without performance. To be met beyond the mask. #selflove #dance #consciousmovement #vibe
Dance and movement can become a powerful space for self-exploration. When you move with curiosity, without trying to perform or control the outcome, something deeper begins to reveal itself. The body starts to express what the mind often hides — emotions, patterns, and truths that live beneath the surface. If you have the courage to look beyond the conditioning you were raised with, beyond the beliefs and identities you inherited, movement becomes a quiet inquiry: Who am I, beyond all of this? In that questioning, in that openness, dance becomes more than expression — it becomes a path to discovering the self. Movement brings you back to the present moment. When you truly enter the dance, something subtle begins to happen — the ego softens. The constant need to perform, impress, or seek validation slowly fades away. Dance becomes a space where you can observe your own mind, witness your thoughts, and see clearly how the ego is always chasing something more. In this space, there is nothing to perfect and nothing to perform. Your dance is simply the expression of your inner world. And just like every soul is unique, every dance is unique. There is nothing to copy — only something to discover. When you allow yourself to move freely, your dance becomes a path of self-inquiry, awareness, and liberation. ✨ Find your rhythm. ✨ Find your expression. ✨ Find your dance.
