We love the look of porcelain tile and hardwood, but for our long-bodied friends, these surfaces can be like walking on ice 24/7. 📉🦴
When a Dachshund walks on a slippery floor, they have to tense their muscles constantly just to stay balanced. This repetitive stress doesn’t just cause fatigue—it actually:
❌ Accelerates arthritis.
❌ Puts dangerous strain on their spine (increasing IVDD risk).
❌ Leads to slips that can cause sudden injury. 😰
🛡️ The Simple Solution:
Create “Safe Paths” using anti-slip rugs or runners on the routes your Doxie uses most. It’s a small home update that costs significantly less than a lifetime of vet visits, surgeries, and joint supplements! 🦴✨
Give your long-bodied best friend the grip they need to live a long, mobile, and pain-free life. 🕊️🐾

Stop! Are you picking up your Doxie the right way? 🛑 Because of their long spines, Dachshunds are extremely prone to IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease). How you handle them can protect them for a lifetime!
✅ The Correct Way: Two-Hand Support
Always support the chest and the rump simultaneously. Place one hand behind the front legs and the other under the pelvis.
The Golden Rule: Keep the spine horizontal at all times! 📏🐕
❌ The Incorrect Way: One-Hand or Armpit Lift
Lifting by the armpits or only under the belly causes the spine to bend, arch, or compress. This puts massive stress on the intervertebral discs and can lead to sudden injury or long-term damage.
Be their protector. A little care in how you lift them today ensures they stay mobile and pain-free tomorrow. ❤️
Did you know about the “Horizontal Rule”? Share this with a fellow Doxie parent! 📲
Caption Option 2: Short & Direct ✨
Protect the spine! 🦴 Picking up a Dachshund under the armpits is a major “No-No.” 🚫
As shown in this guide, you must always use two hands to keep their back perfectly level. Supporting both the chest and the rear is the only way to prevent dangerous spinal compression.
Keep them horizontal. Keep them happy. 🐕🙌

Forever in awe of this mighty little nugget. Forever grateful for having her at my side through all of the things we have went through, amazed at all of the things we survived, beyond grateful for all of the times we proved humans wrong. Next week we will hike 14 miles on her 14th birthday. Every step we share is a blessing, the dearest gift I could ever ask for.
I love you Jill, thank you for loving me and saving me and healing me. Happy National Senior Pet Day❣️

Life is just better in full bloom. From bright dahlias and buzzing bumblebees. Nature always knows exactly how to make us feel grounded and happy. 🌻🌸🐝☀️
Honestly, you can’t look at a sea of purple petals or a sunflower without instantly feeling a little lighter.
Add Stanley a dapper dachshund looking absolutely blooming lovely in his bow ties, and it’s pure happiness!
Consider this your sign to step outside, take a deep breath, and appreciate the blooms today. 🌿🌸
Save this for whenever you need a little burst of summer sunshine!

Here’s a simple breakdown:
Stage 1: Mild pain, sensitivity, maybe a little reluctance to move
Stage 2: Wobbly walking, weakness in the back legs
Stage 3: Can’t stand or walk, but still able to move legs
Stage 4: Paralysis, but deep pain sensation still present (emergency treatment usually needed)
Stage 5: Paralysis with loss of deep pain sensation (most severe, emergency treatment needed)
Note: it doesn’t always happen gradually in stages, it can and often does skip stages!
Catching it early can make a huge difference 🤍
Trust your gut – if something feels off, it probably is.

Guess who decided it was time to show off? 💛🐾 Our sweet Zara is taking steps!
Zara has been spending time with one of our amazing Wheelie Warrior volunteers, and apparently a little change of scenery was just what this girl needed.
Her foster momma captured these first steps and shared this special moment with us and yes, we absolutely cheered. 🥹
IVDD recovery isn’t always a straight path. Every dog moves at their own pace, and Zara has reminded us from the beginning that she’s running her own race.

Vinnie + his carrot = living his absolute BEST life 🥕🧡🐶 ( his carrot is from @slydawgstudio use code Maxvin10 for a discount and get your very own 🥕 )
Watching him play with his favorite carrot might seem like such a simple little moment… but to us, it means EVERYTHING. 🥹
After everything Vinnie went through with his IVDD surgery and recovery, we don’t take moments like this for granted anymore. Every time we see him playing, walking, being silly, and simply enjoying life, our hearts are so incredibly grateful. ❤️🩹
And now we have another BIG reason to celebrate… our Vinnie will be turning 5 years old on August 25th! 🎂🥳🥕😭
After everything he’s been through, this birthday just hits a little differently. Another birthday. Another year with our sweet boy. Another year of Vinnie being Vinnie. 🥹❤️
These are the moments we prayed for. 🙏🏼
So keep playing with that carrot, Vinnie. 🥕 Keep being silly. Keep enjoying every single moment and living your BEST life.
