Not judging… just noticing.
One place sends kids to a screen.
Another gives them a reason to put it away.
And honestly… it changes the whole vibe at the table.
Shoutout to @iggyspizzashopmtp for this 👏

Ask While You Still Can.
Sit with your parents. Your grandparents. The elders at the table.
Ask about their childhood.
Their first love.
The hardest thing they ever overcame.
One day, those stories become memories.
And you’ll be grateful you captured them while you could. 💛

Let's go back to simple days...when they could just be little.
The best childhoods don’t look like this anymore.
Somewhere along the way…
we started believing kids need more.
More toys.
More activities.
More everything.
But what they really need?
Less.
Less rushing.
Less pressure.
Less noise.
And more of you.
Because in the end…
it’s not the big things they remember.
It’s the little ones. 🤍
So let them be little.

In our family, dinner is phone free. No phones. No cartoons. No scrolling.
This is not about being strict. It is about protecting one daily moment where your child can feel: I matter more than a screen.
When screens are at the table, kids do not experience it as convenience.
They experience it as: I am interrupting, I have to compete, I am not that interesting. Then they get louder, clingier, or they shut down.
Phone free dinner does a few powerful things:
1. It brings back hunger and fullness signals, so eating is calmer.
2. It builds boredom tolerance and patience, the base of self-regulation.
3. It makes space for real conversation, not background noise.
4. It lowers nervous system overload, so bedtime is easier.
5. It strengthens connection, because attention is steady, not split.
Start small if you need to. Ten minutes. Phones in another room. Same rule for adults.
No speeches. Just a calm line: phones stay away during dinner.

The first two are a massive 10/10! Both my 3 and 1.5 year old are still entertained by them for such long stretches of time.
I think it’s really important for our kids to be in public and to learn social skills like asking for their own food and quietly entertaining themselves. So if you have anxiety about taking your kids out, I hope this helps!
Most of these can be found on Amazon, but if you want the whole list, just comment “toys” and I’ll DM it to you.

What do kids do when they don’t have a screen?
They play!
We went for dinner yesterday before watching my oldest daughter sing in the Young Voices Choir. We don’t go out for dinner! My kids don’t sit still very easily and quite frankly we can’t usually afford it. We made sure we had a few fidget toys handy. When they asked if they could have my phone at the table I told them no. Did they moan? Yes. Did they occupy themselves? Also yes.
Tweens still play if you allow them the space to. Let’s help them get back to playing.

I’m a no-iPad kid at restaurants 🤍
I people-watch.
I count spoons.
I make stories.
I talk to my parents.
It’s kinda fun here 🫶
Are you team screen or team talk? 👇🏼

It’s easy to think we need to give our kids more.
More toys.
More activities.
More things.
But when we look at the moments they love most…
It’s usually something simple.
Running barefoot.
Laughing at something silly.
Time together.
Kids don’t remember what you bought them.
They remember how life felt.
Follow if you believe childhood should be experienced, not upgraded.
