A room fit for a king! (King Henry Vlll to be exact) 🏰 This is @thornburycastle, the only Tudor castle in England that you can stay overnight in. The King Henry Vlll suite is the most likely room that the king stayed in during his 10 day visit with Anne Boleyn in 1535. It was such a treat to be able to daydream about the past in this castle for the night. *gifted stay #thornburycastle #tudorhistory #historygram #historichotel #kinghenryviii
Just 6 days after giving birth to her first child with her final husband, Thomas Seymour, Katherine Parr died aged 36! Many years after her death, Katherine’s burial place was disturbed by drunken men, anti-monarchists and researchers. Katherine’s hair and teeth were removed from her body for purposes of memorabilia or a keep sake. Due to good preservation, if the men many years ago didn’t disturb Katherine’s body we would know what she would have looked like. Katherine passed away 6 days after giving birth at Sudeley Castle. She was buried here, at Sudeley! Her daughter, Mary Seymour (Niece of Jane Seymour, cousin of Edward VI and daughter of Katherine Parr) disappeared from all records in 1550. She vanished without a trace! It is strongly believed that she died in infancy and it wasn’t heavily recorded. Poor Katherine Parn and her daughter, Mary💔 Locations🏰📍: 1st video: National Portrait Gallery, London! The vision reflects his guilt and unresolved emotions. Catherine appears calm and dignified, reminding him of the love and loyalty she once gave. For a moment, Henry is confronted by his past choices—his betrayal, their broken marriage, and the consequences that followed. It’s less about a literal ghost and more about his conscience catching up with him—showing that even a king couldn’t escape regret. - - -
For every ruler there is a ruler up there. Henry VIII is infamous for how he treated his wives. Obsessed with a male heir, he married six times. When things didn’t go his way, he used false charges to execute Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard. His court lived in fear, as even nobles and advisors could lose their heads for displeasing him. In later years, obese and ill, his leg ulcers rotted so badly that courtiers avoided him. When he died, his coffin burst open, a grim end many saw as divine punishment for his cruelty. Henry VIII is remembered not just as a powerful king, but as a man consumed by blood, fear, and scandal. #HistoryFacts #KingHenryVIII #DarkHistory #WeirdHistory #TudorHistory #RoyalSecrets #ShockingHistory #HistoryFacts #WeirdHistory #DarkHistory #HistorySecrets #HistoryMystery #HiddenHistory #HistoricalFacts #RoyalSecrets #RoyalDrama #TudorHistory #KingsAndQueens #RoyalScandal #MonarchMysteries #FamousKings #ShockingHistory #HistoryShockers #DidYouKnow #HistoryExposed #CrazyHistory #HistoricalSecrets #mindblowinghistory
Henry VIII was not just a king; he was a symbol of opulence. His clothing was a lavish display of wealth, intricately designed to showcase his power and magnificence. Each piece was meticulously crafted from the finest materials, making a statement on and off the throne. During the reign of Henry VIII, strict laws dictated who could wear which fabrics, with purple and cloth-of-gold reserved for the royal family. The Office of the King’s Wardrobe was responsible for managing an extravagant collection of garments filled with opulent embroidery and lavish materials. Imagine spending over three million pounds annually just on clothes! His wardrobe featured deep blue and red velvets, shimmering satins, and embellishments of diamonds and rubies, turning clothing into a grand spectacle. Every item told a story, a narrative of strength, status, and sometimes vulnerability. But behind this lavish facade lay a strategic mind. Henry’s clothing choices were not just indulgence but a calculated effort to project an image of invulnerability during turbulent times, such as during the rise of Perkin Warbeck. His garments weren’t just fabric; they were symbols of his reign, shaping public perception and personal identity. Upon his passing, an inventory revealed nearly 20,000, including an extraordinary tapestry collection. What do you think of Henry’s extravagant fashion? HOW I TRANSFORMED INTO ANNE BOLEYN⁣ ⁣ Based on the famous portrait of Anne Boleyn in the National Portrait Gallery, I spent 3 hours in photoshop recreating her image! Visit my page for the final result⁣ ⁣ I chose clothing in my wardrobe that most closely resembled the painting, did my hair and makeup in a similar style, and wore my B necklace. ⁣ ⁣ I then copied her pose as closely as I could using a remote timer on my tripod. Once I brought the image into Photoshop, I tried to match the faces up as best as I could, and set about changing my top’s colour, adding details, and removing the background.⁣ ⁣ Some items I took from the painting itself, including her gold and pearl necklaces, and her French Hood headdress.⁣ ⁣ Most importantly, I changed the colours of my skin to look much more like aged varnish, and I added in shadows and outlines to my nose, eyebags, and chin to better resemble Anne’s. ⁣ ⁣ Finally, I used frequency separation to lift the craquelure from the original painting, and applied it on top of my own recreation⁣ ⁣ What do you think? This was so much fun to make, I cant wait to hear your thoughts! ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ #photoshoppro #graphic_arts #photoshopart #modernartt #oldworldcharm #16thcenturyfashion #16thcenturyart #medievalart #middleage #medievalstyle #oldeurope #1500s #anneboleyn #anneboleynedit #queenanneboleyn #henryviiiwives #henryviii #kinghenryviii #tudorhistory #royalhistory #historicalcostume #15thcentury #arthistory #classicalpainting #arthistorynerd #artandhistory #arthistory101 #arthistorymemes #historyart #historyofart⁣
