Tap on to Australia's Extinction crisis.
When we are surrounded by beautiful nature in this country it's hard to believe that it's in crisis - but it is, and the list of our threatened species is on the rise.
Another 25 species, found nowhere else on Earth, have been added to Australia's threatened species list this month alone.
Creatures like the lemuroid ringtail possum in the rainforests of the Wet Tropics and Victoria’s extraordinary Mt Donna Buang wingless stonefly are highly vulnerable to climate change, while Tasmania’s glossy grass skink has had much of its habitat taken over.
These species are now officially 'matters of national significance' which means Environment Minister Murray Watt needs to make sure the new rules, which are still being developed, are strong enough to protect threatened species and their habitats.
ACF will be looking for the new EPA to be independent and well-resourced, so these species get the protection they need in a heating climate.

It's World Wildlife Day, and animals all over Australia would love you to know just how much they value #OurEucalyptHome!
Eucalypts support Australia’s animals and plants through food, shelter, water, climate control, and
more—often in ways that are invisible but vital, shaped by millions of years of co-evolution.
Some, like the Forty-spotted Pardalote, rely on a single eucalypt species, others on many different gums. Some eucalypts provide widely, like the River Red Gum, other eucs work closely with just a few pollinators. This complex web is what makes our ecosystems rich and resilient.
Now Our Eucalypt Home is under threat and the trees and the wildlife that depend on them need our help to survive!
Australia's unique wildlife need us to treasure their silent champions—and not take them for granted.
Land clearing, inappropriate fire regimes, exotic diseases, and canopy loss don’t just reduce
habitat. They sever connections, reduce diversity, and weaken the ecological fabric that
eucalypts help weave.
We can all help protect Our Eucalypt Home!
🌿 Preserve established trees.
🌿 Plant the right species.
🌿 Protect corridors and landscape
connectivity.
🌿 Respect cultural knowledge.
🌿 Support conservation.
Every action helps safeguard the living networks built around our eucalypts.

🌿 World Wildlife Day: Australia’s Wildlife Needs Us
Australia has one of the highest rates of mammal extinctions in the world, with hundreds of species at risk from habitat loss, climate change, and pollution.
🐾Through the Nature Oasis network, People For Nature empowers Australians to turn their gardens, balconies, and local spaces into wildlife-friendly habitats.
🌿By planting native species, restoring habitat, and monitoring biodiversity, you can help wildlife return and thrive in your community.

🎥 Why tree hollows matter – straight from the expert
Prof David Lindenmayer has spent decades studying Australia’s forests, showing just how crucial hollow-bearing trees are for wildlife survival. His research has revealed that many species - from possums to owls - cannot survive without these ancient homes, and that the loss of hollows from logging and land clearing has real, measurable impacts on wildlife populations.
In this clip, David explains why protecting and nurturing hollow-bearing trees isn’t just about one species - it’s about keeping entire ecosystems alive. 🌳🦉🐨
💚 Help spread the word!
Share this reel to show your support for hollow-dependent wildlife and the forests they call home. Every share helps raise awareness and protect our unique ecosystems.

There’s a reason Australia is a water-locked continent: Geography is trying to protect you.” ……………..IYKYK!
What ever name she takes, Mother Nature or Country as a living bio-system cares for and provides for us so much. It’s super cool, humbling, exciting to help her begin to repair and rebalance what we, as humans, have done to place her out of balance. Immense thank you to @adventure_guides_australia for an introduction to Sport and Recreation Victoria / David Strickland and, in turn, the teams at @ydiscoverycamps for their openness to consider a demonstration of can we help Nature recompost ground-litter fuels on mountain forest soils to reduce wildfires? In time, when the time is right, there’ll be an opportunity to critically analyse the process and to touch, smell, feel and experience first-hand the wisdom of the underground. Regenerating the Earth’s soil carbon sponge are soils that wetter, cooler and softer helps caring for Country. More can be seen at https://regenerate-earth.org/fire-vs-fungi/ with @regenerate_earth. Awesome 🎥 capture by @kimberleyannconstable (thanks Kim!) with @katrinalucyanderson and ‘Fungi Phill’ Lee who outran a cyclone, flooding rains and wildfire in Western Australia to make this all happen.

Around the world, crimes against wildlife and the environment are growing.
This kind of crime can take many forms, from the trafficking and trade of native species to the unlawful removal and clearance of habitat and species, lethal control such as poisoning of native animals, and illegal fishing.
This is especially bad for Australia, due to our unique and endemic wildlife species, high extinction rates, and because it’s difficult to police the country’s sheer size and vast remote areas.
It doesn’t always have to be about the Outback 🦘
