TUES 24 MARCH, 7PM: LEE SCRATCH PERRY BLACK ARK - BOOK LAUNCH
OTO hosts the launch of Black Ark, presented with Edition Patrick Frey, centred on Lee Scratch Perry’s Black Ark Studios in Kingston, Jamaica.
The evening will begin with a panel discussion featuring Martine Rose, Marc Asekhame, David Katz, and Chris Peckings, moderated by Canan Batur.
Following the panel, Katz will guide a listening session that traces the book’s visual archive to music. This session will showcase significant Black Ark productions, elusive original vinyl from Lee Scratch Perry, and various archival materials. Highsteppers and Canan Batur will then present a sonic response to round out the night.
Exclusive copies of Black Ark will be available in the OTO bookshop.

A beautifully crafted book of Lee “Scratch” Perry's work. 🎨
Black Ark Studios in Kingston, Jamaica, is where Lee produced his music from 1973 on. He was a seminal pioneer of dub, an electronic subgenre of reggae that uses sampling, looping, remixing, reverb and echoes to create new songs as well as rework and appropriate pre-recorded songs and tracks.
Black Ark Studios was one of the cradles of dub. It’s also where Lee “Scratch” Perry’s musical approach found an enduring visual counterpart in the form of continuously evolving mural paintings and drawings as well as shape-shifting assemblages of records, instruments, found objects, posters, newspaper and magazine clippings, and appropriated books.

Today the late great Upsetter would have celebrated his 90th anniversary, we remenber Lee Scratch Perry and his musical legacy lives on ! #leescratchperry #blackark #reggae #roots #leeperry #hearticalsound #dubplate
Sometimes only a classic will do.
Super Ape.
Perry conjures atmosphere. The sound feels mined from the centre of the earth, built in the Black Ark, Perry’s extended instrument.
Ahead of its time, or outside of it entirely?

#SundayMusicMeltDown #physicalmusicmedia @Moods Music had Robert Glasper everywhere. this "Keys to the City - Volumn 1" is 🔥. I got the black vinyl version. there is a blue vinyl edition available, but it doesn't have any more tracks than this one. this is a unique recording as it's a live recorded album...no tracks layered in a studio...everybody in one place, playing their parts. Great guest stars like the Black Radio series...on the jazz r&b with a side of hip hop.

Black History Fact #27: The Paradox 🎸 @theparadoxband
Formed in 2024 in Atlanta, The Paradox — Eric Dangerfield, Christopher Bernard, Donald Bryant, and Percy “PC3” Crews — are proof that punk’s rebellious spirit is alive and evolving.
They went viral after a raw backyard performance of “Do Me Like That” exploded on TikTok — turning a DIY moment into a national breakthrough.
Then they made history.
Their single “Get the Message” hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay Chart — a major milestone in modern rock.
But here’s what matters.
Punk’s DNA has always been connected to Black music — from the raw energy of Little Richard and Chuck Berry to trailblazing bands like Bad Brains.
The Paradox didn’t enter punk.
They’re continuing a legacy Black artists helped build.
Punk is resistance. Autonomy. Truth.
And that’s always been Black.
