We keep asking the wrong question. It’s not: Why are millennial mothers burning out? It’s: Why are we surprised? We were raised to believe we could build careers, be present parents, maintain relationships, stay healthy, look good, be emotionally regulated AND be grateful. And many of us are doing it all. But here’s the part that rarely gets said clearly enough: The infrastructure didn’t evolve with us. Workplaces still assume someone else is handling home. Homes still assume someone else is handling work. Schools still call mums first. Domestic labour still skews heavily one way. So women expand to fill the gap. Until they can’t. This isn’t about individual resilience. It’s about collective design. We don’t need another headline about maternal burnout. We need structural change. Flexible work that’s truly flexible. Shared domestic responsibility. Cultural shifts in how we define “good mothering”. Mothers aren’t failing. The system around them is outdated. A NEW Motherkind launches this Thursday. 5.03.26. I can't wait to show you what I'm building for us 👀
The “mental load” placed on mothers isn’t biology — it’s expectation. Planning, remembering, anticipating, organizing, managing emotions, and carrying the invisible logistics of a household has been culturally assigned to women and normalized as instinct instead of recognized as labor. When something is labeled “natural,” it rarely gets acknowledged, shared, or supported. The mental load isn’t invisible because it’s small. It’s invisible because it’s been made to be expected. ⸻ #motherhood #feminism #womenempowerment #genderequality #workingmom
It’s strange how feminism gets blamed for “devaluing motherhood” when feminism is the movement that actually names the physical, emotional, financial, and career sacrifices that pregnancy and motherhood require. Acknowledging that pregnancy changes a woman’s body forever isn’t disrespect. Acknowledging that motherhood can slow careers isn’t disrespect. Acknowledging unpaid domestic labor isn’t disrespect. Pretending those sacrifices don’t exist is what devalues mothers — because it allows society to benefit from their labor while refusing to support them. Respecting motherhood means respecting women’s choices, their labor, and the reality of what they give. ⸻ #feminism #womenempowerment #motherhood #womensupportingwomen #genderequality
I’ve been thinking a lot about the pressure so many women carry around work, identity and motherhood that doesn’t come from one big comment, but from years of small moments that slowly add up 💜 The question about what you do. The raised eyebrow when your answer doesn’t fit neatly into a box. The way “career” is still treated as a marker of worth, while being a mum first is often framed as something you need to justify, explain, or eventually “move on” from. Some women genuinely want the corporate ladder. They want the meetings, the responsibility, the sense of progression that comes with a clearly defined role. Others want a life that revolves around their children, their home, and the rhythms of family life. And many sit somewhere in the middle, moving between seasons, priorities shifting as life changes 💗 None of these choices are small. And none of them make you more evolved, more ambitious, or more valuable than the next. For me, what I’d call true feminism has always been about choice. Not choice as a slogan, but real choice, the freedom to decide what your life looks like, without judgement attached. Without having to dress it up so it sounds impressive. Without feeling like you owe anyone an explanation. Corporate isn’t for everyone. Neither is entrepreneurship. Neither is staying at home. The issue isn’t the path itself, it’s the unspoken hierarchy we’ve built around them, the idea that some choices should be applauded while others are questioned. The older I get, the more I believe alignment matters far more than appearances. A life that fits you will always be more sustainable than one that simply sounds good when you say it out loud. I’d love to know where this has shown up for you, not to label or compare, just to understand 🌈 #womeninbusiness #womensupportingwomeninbusiness #corporatewoman
Maybe motherhood isn't the problem What if suffering in motherhood is more a product of our modern culture than it is inherently about motherhood itself? We lack a village We commodify motherhood We externalize her knowing There is so much noise that she cant even hear her own voice And then we wonder why she's lost? If you've been quietly thinking, "There has to be another way...." There is. THRESHOLD is where we begin. Waitlist open ➡️ link in bio 🤍 #modernmotherhood #Matrescence #motherhoodreimagined
Take this patriarchy! 🫱🏽‍🫲🏾 Whats your opinion?
It’s a man’s world - until women stop playing along. That line isn’t about hating men. It’s about naming systems that reward dominance, extraction and silence - and how deeply they’ve shaped modern motherhood. When mothers are exhausted, isolated and riddled with guilt, we don’t have the capacity to challenge what’s broken. That’s not a personal failure. It’s how power maintains itself. This is why my work focuses on two things: ✨ Reframe - where mothers do the personal work of social unconditioning: dismantling guilt, rebuilding capacity, and resourcing themselves for their own future and their children’s. ✨ Rebuilding connection - because isolation is also a weapon, and the loss of the village has left many of us trying to survive alone. Personal work and collective connection aren’t separate. They’re both part of the resistance. If this resonates, stay close. It’s essential to remember that there’s no one right way to be a mom (another lie from patriarchal motherhood) Part of sovereignty is gaining inspiration from other moms, feeling and discerning what changes that inspiration is driving, and appreciating other moms for all that they are The beauty of motherhood is in the rainbow of its experience and expression in all of us 🌈 Comparison keeps us disconnected The higher path is appreciation and inspiration that can drive growth. It’s all love baby 🌈 These changes in perspective are how we experience freedom and joy in motherhood. Dismantling the patriarchy starts right here at home, inside of our minds and hearts #matriarchy #patriarchy #motherhood #conciousparenting
Maternal guilt is a social strategy. When mothers feel guilty, they: ✨Work harder to compensate✨Absorb the emotional labour✨Take on the blame rather than make broken systems accountable Guilt quietly benefits workplaces, institutions, and patriarchical family systems. When mothers internalise guilt as responsibility, there is less pressure for robust public investment in childcare, parental leave, healthcare, or family support systems. Guilt keeps women compensation for structural gaps by working a ‘second shift’, working part-time hours, silently absorbing burnout. This benefits employers who rely on women’s unpaid or underpaid labour while avoiding systemic changes (like introducing better flexible work and equitable parental leave) It’s 2026 but family arrangements still position mothers are primary caregivers and emotional containers in their homes. This makes mothers feel more personally accountable when a little one has a tantrum in public. That fear of public judgment is absorbed by mothers more of the time because society has taught us that it’s a woman’s job to ‘keep their kids under control’ None of this aligns with child development and the science we have on relationships. Kids don’t need perfect mothers who ‘do it all’. They need responsive, caring, thoughtful parents. And as long as you’re acting this way 30-50% of the time (and not acting in harmful ways the rest of the time) you’re doing great. So if you feel like guilt is part of your every day - it’s not you. You’re not getting it wrong. Society has set unrealistic expectations that feed off your self-blame. ❤️We can re-write this narrative so our children don’t have to carry it too. If you’d like more on this let me know (I can feel a mini series in my newsletter on this) ⭐️Share this message if it resonates with a mother who needs to be guilt free. 💙When does guilt show up for you? By all means, love your kids more than life itself, but don’t fall for the lie that it requires sacrificing your identity, your health or your sanity. Patriarchy wants mothers distracted. It wants us depleted. It wants us to show our sons and daughters that ‘good’ women sacrifice it all for others. DONT LISTEN. You deserve to be your own person with your own passions, whatever they may be. Now listen, I’m not by any means saying that your kids can’t be your passion, and I know parenting can take a lot out of us, especially during the early years. But don’t let yourself be the only one going uncared-for. You deserve more! 😘 Tell me your passions in the comments! #patriarchy #motherhood #matresence #matriarchy
