CARAN d'ACHE Museum Aquarelle Sharp point: 4/5 Opacity: 3/5🤔 Other notes: good not great, reliable. Final score: 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3. CARAN d'ACHE Neocolor II Sharp point: 1/5 Opacity: 4/5 Other notes: mixed media wizard. Con: breaks. Final score: 4.5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4. CARAN d'ACHE Neopastel (oil pastel) Sharp point: 1/5 Opacity: 5/5 Other notes: brighter & more opaque than Neocolor II Final score: 4/5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5. CARAN d'ACHE Pablo Sharp point: 4.5/5 Opacity: 3/5 Other notes: impressive sharp point for fine details. Final score: 3.5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 6. CARAN d'ACHE Supracolor soft Sharp point: 3.5/5 Opacity: 4/5 Other notes: between Pablo and Luminance in terms of sharp point / opacity balance Final score: 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Non surprisingly, Luminance leads the first round amongst the pencils, but Neopastel _surprisingly_ impresses me when compared to the coveted Neocolor II. I feel like soft pastels are having a moment lately. Not only are people hunting for new pastel sets the same way we used to obsess over granulating watercolors (remember those times?!), but I’m also seeing many artists who used to work exclusively in watercolor picking up pastels. Some are even combining both mediums in the same pieces, which is really interesting to watch. Maybe it’s just selection bias from my feed… but it definitely feels like there’s a shift happening. I saw a review from @lindsayweirich about these water-soluble pastels. They were affordable, so I ordered a set on Amazon. For my first foray into this new medium, I found them fun to work with. There is a possibility of some travel for me and the Hubs in the future, so I am exploring different, more portable supplies that travel well.
