Ever wonder why the blobfish looks so grumpy? It’s actually just a victim of extreme decompression. Down in its natural habitat—thousands of feet deep where the pressure is crushing—it looks like a completely normal fish! It survives the deep ocean by having a jelly-like body instead of heavy bones or a normal swim bladder. Scientists officially classified this fascinating creature back in 1926, though it didn't become an internet legend until a deep-sea expedition accidentally pulled one up off the coast of New Zealand in 2003. You can only find them in the pitch-black, freezing waters off mainland Australia, Tasmania, and New Zealand. Honestly, the poor guy doesn't deserve the "world's ugliest animal" title when he's just been dragged totally out of his element. #blobfish #deepseacreatures #marinebiology #weirdanimals #oceanlife #naturefacts #underwaterworld #wildlife #deepseaexplorer
One year ago today, on 14 November 2024, Aotearoa witnessed one of the most striking moments of political protest inside Parliament. Hana-Rāwhiti Maipi-Clarke — then just 22 and the youngest MP from Te Pāti Māori — stood in the debating chamber during the first reading of a Treaty-related bill, tore the document in half, and launched into a haka. The chamber erupted. Members of the public gallery joined in the chanting, opposition MPs rose to their feet, and the Speaker was forced to suspend proceedings. What could have been a routine legislative vote instantly became a defining image of Māori resistance in the heart of the nation’s democracy. Just shy of one year later, on 13 November 2025, the story came full circle. The Regulatory Standards Bill, a key part of the coalition agreement between ACT, National and New Zealand First, passed its third and final reading in Parliament. Despite more than 98 percent of public submissions opposing it, the bill passed with government support. Read the full story link in bio 🔗

When fear hits different. This guy was so terrified before bungee jumping that he screamed ‘let me tell you something!’ like he was about to drop life’s biggest secret But the crew didn’t wait, they pushed him anyway and guess what... everything turned out perfectly fine! Sometimes you just gotta jump and trust the process. This video is about a man who became part of a viral meme when he got scared before a canyon swing (a type of extreme swing/bungee jump) and repeatedly shouted, “let me tell you something!”. The original clip was posted online by the adventure tourism company, Shotover Canyon Swing in New Zealand, and went on to accumulate millions of views. #usa #usamemes #trending #meme #viral
We stumbled across this cafe tucked away in the corner of a random appliance store carpark beside a main road. Not exactly where you’d expect to find such a heartwarming cafe. The owners told us they’ve been open for a year and are close to shutting down. No foot traffic, barely any social media, and hidden in a spot people would never think to look. It’s genuinely sad. Because the effort and love that’s gone into this place, the food, the decor, is so obvious. So if you’re in Christchurch, definitely check this place out. It feels more like a home than a cafe and the owners are so sweet 🤍 📍Cup of Rest Ferrymead, Christchurch @chch.cupofrest #fyp #nz #newzealand #christchurch #christchurchnz (not an ad, just wanted to give back to the community)

a road trip that you’ll never forget🥺 info👇 A fair warning, one of the problems with road tripping the South Island of New Zealand is how little you’ll sleep, not because of the long drives but because of how beautiful this place is😌 This is one of the few countries I’ve been too where there are so many views it actually delayed my trip from stopping so much 😂 I spent 10 days which was honestly not enough for how much this island has to offer. My advice is to have an extra day per major location and plan only 2 main activities a day. Locations👇 📍Lake Tekapo -Lupin fields (along the shore and outskirts) -Pines beach -The Church of the Good Shepard -Astro Cafe (entry fee for cars or hike it for free) 📍Lake Pukaki -Peter’s Lookout -Lake Pukaki Viewpoint -Tasman Glacier -Sealy Tarns Viewpoint -Hooker Valley Track (partially closed) 📍Wānaka -Rob Roy Glacier Track -Roy’s Peak Track -Mount Iron -That Wānaka Tree 📍Glenorchy -Earnslaw Burn Track (hard hike, experienced trekking only) -Glenorchy Wharf -The Road to Paradise 📍Milford Sound (Fiordland National Park) -Eglinton Valley -Mirror Lakes -Pop’s View Lookout -Monkey Creek -Milford Valley Lookout -Milford Sound Swing 📍Timaru -Little Blue Penguins -Caroline Bay -Jack’s Point Lighthouse If you have any questions about road tripping New Zealand ask me them in the comments, happy to help😄 #roadtrip #newzealand #southisland
