Did you know that there is surprising amount of video footage and/or audio recordings of legendary composers? Many "classical" music fans have absolutely no idea that these amazing historical documents exist -- so we'll be featuring some of them periodically on this IG page in order to spread awareness! Today: To commemorate his birthday, enjoy this memorable (c. 1960's) film clip of the elderly Igor Stravinsky (1883 - 1971) recounting the shocked and dismayed response of famous Russian impresario Sergei Diaghilev (1872 - 1929) upon hearing Stravinsky play a reduction of the "The Rite Of Spring" (1913) for him on the piano for the first time. Diaghilev had commissioned the score to serve as background music for a ballet that he was planning to put on with his legendary "Ballets Russes" dance troupe during their 1913 Summer Season in Paris. He may not have initially loved what he was hearing -- but he certainly loved the tremendous scandal that attended the world premiere performance (and all of the wonderful publicity that flowed from it). AfterLight- history and memory AfterLight is a solo created for me by @rmaliphant in 2009. Originally produced by @sadlers_wells for the 100-year anniversary of Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes. It is based on Vaslav Nijinsky’s circular drawings, which he created during the most challenging period for his mind. Like many others, the Ukrainian legend, who would change dance forever, was terribly affected by the turmoil and devastation of his era. I’m very pleased to announce I’ll be dancing AfterLight again in Paris, at @maisondelamusiquenanterre . This true highlight of my dancing career will be presented alongside my work Cygne, performed by @balletoperadeparis star @ludmila_pagliero_official and a new duet by @alanlucien , in which I’ll be joined on stage by @marion_barbeau . These works will also be accompanied by a series of educational projects. @d.laulanne , director of MMN, invited me to join his house as Associate Artist from the season 24/25. I’m very grateful to him and my dear collaborators.
