Most people know it as Primark…
but in Ireland, it’s still called Penneys
That’s because the brand actually started in Dublin in 1969, under the name Penneys.
When the company expanded internationally, it couldn’t use that name — it was already registered in the United States by JCPenney.
So instead of changing the brand completely, they simply renamed it:
Penneys in Ireland
Primark everywhere else
Same company. Same clothes. Different name.
📍 And yes — it all began right here in Dublin.
Keep discovering!

Dunnes stores are at it AGAIN!
2 pizzas for €9 seems class in my opinion! 💸✨

One thing I didn’t realise I’d miss about Ireland… the middle market shops.
Places like M&S, Penneys and Dunnes where you can walk in for one thing and walk out with pyjamas, socks, candles, a dress and a sandwich.
Denmark does fashion beautifully, but sometimes a girl just wants a good all-in-one affordable shop.
