I had no idea there were Larches or Tamaracks in Ontario! Tamaracks love wet boggy soil and can be found in the boreal forests across the East Coast of Canada and the US! The Larches in BC prefer high elevation, so it was so crazy to see these trees in a low elevation environment. 🤯 What a treat that these beautiful trees can be found across the whole country 🥹

🛶 @1000islandskayaking: join the pros as they bring you to some of their favourite views in 1000 islands. You’ll learn lots of cool stories from shipwrecks to prohibition. The water is crystal clear and in calmer spots you’ll be able to see fall colours reflect in the water
🚁 Soar above the islands with @fly1000islands. This has to be one of the best spots for a helicopter ride in Canada :D I recommend doing the 20-minute flight so you can see Boldt Castle too.
🍂 @1000islandstower will give you a panoramic view of the islands and fall colours. The first deck is glass-enclosed and wheelchair accessible :)
🦙 The alpaca farm is run by the kindest couple. Make sure to comment ‘GETAWAY’ for the location and how to book an appointment. Sharing in the blog because its free to visit and there’s special info to know before you go 🙌
🍻 Enjoy a cider flight with a view at @buslcider or visit their sister company @arbrubeer
☀️ Catch sunset at Halden’s Bay 🫶 One of my favourite spots, details on how to find it in the blog post.

Ontario fall colour report — Kawartha Lakes, September 26, 2026 🍁
If you’re wondering where to see fall colours near Toronto right now, Kawartha Lakes is about [50]% turned. Early, but it’s moving. Roughly 90 minutes northeast of the city, through Lindsay and Bobcaygeon toward Peterborough.
When do fall colours peak in Ontario? Around here it’s usually mid-October, give or take a week depending on overnight temperatures. Further north — Algonquin, Muskoka, Haliburton — turns 7 to 10 days earlier, so if you want peak colour sooner, drive north.
Best fall drives in this area: the backroads between Lindsay and Fenelon Falls, the shoreline routes around Sturgeon Lake, and anything off Highway 35 heading north.
I’ll post an updated Ontario fall colour report every week until peak. Save this so you can time your drive instead of guessing.
