ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿಗಳ ಕುರಿತ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ (Fiction)ದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತದ ಪಂಚತಂತ್ರ ಕತೆಗಳನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟರೆ ಜಗತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ದವಾದ ಕೃತಿ ಎಂದರೆ ಅದು Rudyard Kipling ರವರ The jungle book. 1894 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಕಟಿತವಾದ ಈ ಇಂಗ್ಲೀಷ್ ಕೃತಿ ಇಂದಿಗೂ ಕೂಡ ತನ್ನ ಜನಪ್ರಿಯತೆ ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡಿಲ್ಲ. ಈ ಕೃತಿ ಬರೆದ ನಂತರ 1907 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಕಿಪ್ಲಿಂಗ್ ರವರಿಗೆ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ವಿಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ನೊಬೆಲ್ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ದೊರೆಯಿತು.
ನಾವು ಚಿಕ್ಕವರಿದ್ದಾಗ ಉದಯ ಟಿ.ವಿ.ಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿ ಭಾನುವಾರ ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ 9 ಗಂಟೆಗೊ, 10 ಗಂಟೆಗೋ 'ದಿ ಜಂಗಲ್ ಬುಕ್' ಹೆಸರಿನ ಧಾರವಾಹಿ ಪ್ರಸಾರವಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಮೊಗ್ಲಿ ಹೆಸರಿನ ಪ್ರಧಾನ ಪಾತ್ರದ ಹಲವು ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿಗಳ ಪಾತ್ರವನ್ನೊಳಗೊಂಡ ಇದು ಚಿಕ್ಕಂದಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಮ್ಮ ನೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಧಾರವಾಹಿಯಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಈಗಿನ Web series ಮಾದರಿಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಆ ಧಾರವಾಹಿ ಬಹುಶಃ ಕನ್ನಡಕ್ಕೆ ಡಬ್ ಆಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು ಎನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ನಂತರ ಡಬ್ಬಿಂಗ್ ಬಹಳಷ್ಟು ವರ್ಷ ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಷೇದವಾದದ್ದು, ಇತ್ತೀಚಿನ ಕೆಲವು ವರ್ಷಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹಳಷ್ಟು ಜನರ ಹೋರಾಟದ ಫಲವಾಗಿ ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಡಬ್ಬಿಂಗ್ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ವಿಭಾಗದಲ್ಲೂ ಅಧಿಕೃತವಾಗಿ ಜಾರಿಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದು, ಬಹಳ ಇತ್ತೀಚಿನ ಇತಿಹಾಸ! 2016 ರಲ್ಲಿ Jungle book ಹಾಲಿವುಡ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿನಿಮಾವಾಗಿಯೂ ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಯಿತು.
ಈಗ ಈ ವಿಡಿಯೋಗೂ The jungle book ಕತೆಗೂ ಏನೂ ಸಂಬಂಧ ಎನ್ನುವ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ ಮೂಡಿದರೆ, ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಉತ್ತರ ಇಲ್ಲವೆಂದಿಲ್ಲ. ದಿ ಜಂಗಲ್ ಬುಕ್ ಕತೆಯ ನಾಯಕ ಪ್ರಧಾನ ಪಾತ್ರವೆಂದರೆ ಅದು ಕಾಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ, ತೋಳಗಳ ಪೋಷಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳೆಯುವ ಮೊಗ್ಲಿ ಹೆಸರಿನ ಹುಡುಗನ ಪಾತ್ರ. ಕತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮೋಗ್ಲಿಗೆ ಆತ್ಮೀಯ ಸ್ನೇಹಿತರೆಂದರೆ ಬಾಲು ಹೆಸರಿನ ಕರಡಿ ಮತ್ತು ಭಗೀರಾ ಹೆಸರಿನ ಕರಿಚಿರತೆ! ಕತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮೋಗ್ಲಿ ಭಗೀರಾನೊಂದಿಗೆ ಕಾಡಲ್ಲಿ ಅಡ್ಡಾಡುವಾಗ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಒಮ್ಮೆಲೇ ಆನೆಗಳ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಗುಂಪೊಂದು ಎದುರಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಆಗ ಭಗೀರಾ, ಆನೆಗಳ ಕುರಿತು ಮೋಗ್ಲಿಗೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾ "ಅವರಿಗೆ ಗೌರವ ಕೊಡು, ಈ ಕಾಡನ್ನು ಆನೆಗಳು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸಿವೆ..." (Show them respect, for the elephants created this jungle...”)
ಕೆಳಗಿನ ವಿಡಿಯೋದಲ್ಲಿ ಆನೆಗಳು ಬರುತ್ತಿರುವ ಶಬ್ದ ಕೇಳಿ ಅವುಗಳಿಗೆ ತಾನು ಕಾಣದಂತೆ ಮರೆಯಾಗಲು ಎಂಬಂತೆ ಮರೆಯಾಗಲು ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಿಸುವ ಹುಲಿರಾಯನ ದೃಶ್ಯ ಅಕ್ಷರಶಃ ಆನೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಗೌರವ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ರೀತಿ ಭಾಸವಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ.
