A great day and got to meet author @dpevs David Pevsner. Author of Damn Shame- a memoir of defiance, desire and show tunes! Now that was a cool, impromptu thing to happen!

Alverstoke in Gosport, Hampshire’s real life Sanditon 🏖️
Take a walk with me and discover one of Hampshire’s biggest architectural surprises, described by Pevsner as a “tour de force”.
A fine regency terrace that would have been the centrepiece of Angleseyville, a seaside resort to rival Brighton and Weymouth.

The Bewcastle Cross. Nicolaus Pevsner described it - along with another similar sculpture in Ruthwell, Dumfriesshire - as ‘the greatest achievement of their date in the whole of Europe’.

The Crossness Pumping Station Is absolutely stunning, and fascinatingly happens to also be an old sewage plant. It features spectacular ornamental cast ironwork, that Nikolaus Pevsner described as “a masterpiece of engineering – a Victorian cathedral of ironwork”.
Sneak peek at the Steampunk fashion shoot at @crossnesset
with @jim_demetriou_photopgraphy ! Delighted @philshistory joined it too 🥰
Side note: when Phil and I watched the BTS, the hand turning the head bit made us chuckle. Basically, Phil’s a tad new to modelling and the light was the other way.
My first look is almost entirely by @stitchandconfess with the exception of the corset and black over skirt from @blackwidowlondon
Phil’s look was thrifted/second hand with the exception of the hat and goggles.
In this clip, Simon Bradley tells us about how he first became acquainted with the Pevsner Architectural Guides series, long before he came to work on the books!
Tell us in the comments, what was your first introduction to Pevsner?

Calling all our architecture-loving lovelies! 🏛️✨
Today we are raising a metaphorical glass (and a very real cup of tea) to the man who literally wrote the book—well, 46 of them—on our beautiful surroundings. Happy Birthday to the legendary Sir Nikolaus Pevsner! 🎂
Born on this day in 1902, Pevsner was a true titan of art and architectural history. If you’ve ever wandered through a sleepy English village or a bustling city centre and wondered about the stories behind the stone, you’ve likely got him to thank for the answer. His monumental series, The Buildings of England, is essentially the “Architectural Bible” for us Brits. 📖🇬🇧
He certainly knew how to build a legacy, didn’t he? We think he’d be quite pleased to know that his guides are still the most thumbed-through volumes for anyone wanting to truly understand the “spirit of place.”
Whether you’re a professional historian or just someone who appreciates a particularly handsome gargoyle, why not pop in and see us? We often have various volumes of Pevsner’s guides and other architectural gems looking for a new home. It’s the perfect excuse to escape the January chill and get lost in some grand designs! 🏘️💛
See you soon, darlings!

One of the finest houses in West Sussex, Barnham Court is a 17th century Grade I listed house, lovingly restored to provide 21st century comforts and set in some 6.2 acres of gardens and grounds. Indeed, Ian Nairn and Nikolaus Pevsner, writing in the Sussex edition of The Buildings of England, tell us that Barnham Court is "the best of its date in the county". Pevsner goes on to declare that Barnham Court is "so similar to Kew Palace in Surrey...that the same designer must surely have been responsible", and that the symmetry of its 5 bay façade "is more effective than many palaces".
.
Barnham Court is on the market with Jackson-Stops Chichester with a guide price of offers in excess of £3,750,000

17 December - Q is staying at the Hotel Pevsner in SPECTRE. Tom Pevsner was executive producer during the Moore and Dalton era and his name was first referenced on Boris computer in GoldenEye. And just like in GoldenEye, Bond gets 3 minutes to escape from Mi6. #bondadventcalendar #spectre #goldeneye #jamesbondlocations #007 #jamesbond
Can we just take a moment to admire this incredible font at St Mary's, Kirkburn? It comes from the school of East Yorkshire font sculpture dating to the 12th century.
I love it's simplistic design although Pevsner wasn't a fan, describing it as "a barborous jumble of a font."
