I’m going to go out on a limb and assume that what we have here is a ✨lack of opportunities for building fine motor skills✨. There are SO many things a child can do to strengthen their fingers and hands. When we offer these opportunities on a regular, consistent basis during those toddler and preschool years, our children’s hands will be set up for success when learning to actually write letters and numbers. Yes, there is a lot more that goes into handwriting than this- but this is where it begins! This is where the ✨foundation✨ is laid. #preschoolathome #preschoolactivity #prek #finemotoractivity #handwriting
Fine motor skill practice for toddlers and preschoolers are so important and SO EASY to do. This type of play is their pre writing practice. Get your threading cards and dough out and play!

mom to mom, more handwriting practice was never the answer 🤍 if their grip isn’t there yet, their hands just aren’t strong enough and the good news? you can fix that through play no worksheets. no sitting down to practice. just everyday activities that quietly build the strength they need first save this one. you’ll want it. 🤍 fine motor activities for kids | pencil grip activities | hand strength activities for kids | pre writing skills for toddlers | sensory play for fine motor | IEP support | IEP goals | special education teacher
Writing readiness starts with strength and coordination — not perfect finger placement. Squeezing, pinching, pressing, peeling…That’s what builds the foundation. As a special ed teacher, I focus on the skills that actually make writing easier later✨ Save this if you’re thinking about pre-writing skills. Follow for skill-building play that actually prepares kids for school. #toddleractivities #finemotor #preschoolactivities #sensoryplay #prewritingskills
Before preschoolers should start writing their name, they need to be able to draw prewriting lines (vertical line, horizontal line, circle, cross, diagonal line) and shapes. These strokes are the foundation for confident writing, building strength/coordination, teaching directionality and focus. And yes…the shaving cream is worth the less than 5 minute clean up! Sensory play makes learning fun, lowers pressure, and helps children practice movements in a playful way. Messy hands often show meaningful learning is happening ✨ Like, save, and follow for more! #preschoolers #finemotorskills #earlywriting #kindergartenready

“The #1 mistake parents make with early writing ✍️” We don’t work enough on fine motor skills. Fine motor play helps them control their fingers, grip better, and actually enjoy writing later. Follow along for more tips! #toddlermomlife #montessori #finemotoractivity #howtoteach
Before kids can write ✍️… they need THIS! 👉 Comment FREE to download these 🍀 tracing pages from my blog :) You are welcome. Before a child can write letters, their hands need to learn how to move. Tracing paths in a sensory tray may look simple… but inside your child’s brain, something incredible is happening. ✨ Hand-eye coordination✨ Pre-writing control✨ Concentration✨ Confidence Activities like this are how children prepare for writing through movement, exploration, and joy. And the best part? It feels like play. Because meaningful learning doesn’t have to be complicated. It can start with a tray, some rice, and a curious child. 👉 Comment FREE #montessoriathome #preschool #toddlerlearning#fineMotorSkills
If your students are still struggling with writing this spring… it’s probably not the writing. 🌷 It’s the fine motor. By this point in the year, our students know a lot more… but many of them still don’t have the hand strength, control, and coordination to keep up. That’s where activities like this come in 👇 This simple roll & draw center is building visual motor integration: students see an image, process it, and recreate it with their hands. And that eye + hand coordination? That’s exactly what writing requires. No coordination → no stamina No stamina → writing avoidance So instead of piling on more writing… we give them more opportunities to build the skills behind writing. This is just ONE of the 11 centers included in my Spring Fine Motor Centers 🌸 Save this for your spring rotations! Spent my Sunday afternoon last week making Jayden’s tracing book and laminating the pages so we can use them over and over again. 😊 Pre-writing activities help strengthen fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and pencil control—important foundations for writing later on. Making it colorful and fun keeps toddlers engaged and excited to learn. Learning through play always works best! Teacher secret parents don’t always realize 👀 Before kids can write with a pencil, they need to build the skills first. This simple sensory activity helps with: • fine motor strength • letter formation • hand control • early writing skills Play isn’t “extra” — it’s how they learn 🤍 Save this for later & share with a parent who needs this. #learningthroughplay #sensoryplay #finemotorskills #toddlermom
