Real Yoga | Krishnamurti From the first Q&A meeting at Brockwood Park, 1979.
Welcome to my TED Talk 😗✌🏼 I think there is such a big misconception surrounding “creative” yoga. I see many posts from teachers who prefer to keep their movement classic, with serious hate toward not-so-classic style of yoga teachers. There’s a lot of bashing - which goes completely against yogic concepts 🫥 I like to live with an open heart & I love what I can channel to students & teachers through movement. You can be practicing yoga no matter what you are doing! Just because creative movement looks cool on IG doesn’t automatically mean it couldn’t possibly be good or “real” IRL for students. Ik it crazy but.. what if it’s possible to look cool, AND still be REAL yoga? 🫣 I add classic poses/transitions AND unique poses/transitions into all my classes, while ensuring I create a space for intentional breath & focus. The key for me is balancing creativity & classic movements, AND delivering strong cues - that way it’s not chaotic.. it’s actually very grounded. I really love adding intentional creativity because it actually helps my students maintain focus. Let me know your thoughts in the comments! PS - I’m not trying to “change” yoga & eliminate it’s history - but rather sharing my own personal gifts the way that feels right (& that’s what every teacher should strive to do) #yoga #poweryoga #ytt #yogainspiration #yogateacher #yogainstructor #yogasequence #yogainspo #creativeyoga
Y’all are tagging me this and I love it. And love @zarnagarg too. Thank you. When the west stole yoga. Real talk. I wrote Embrace Yoga’s Roots 📕 all about how we need to honor the roots of yoga in the West. If yoga has ever felt ‘not for you’… let me lovingly ruin that belief. After my stroke, yoga meant chairs, walls, blocks, breath, and a whole lot of wobbling. It meant rebuilding my confidence one tiny win at a time. Those early “setbacks” became the reason I teach yoga the way I do now: adaptive, accessible, creative, prop-friendly, and rooted in real anatomy and real life. There is no lesser version of yoga.
There is only the version that works for your body. Adaptive yoga welcomes different mobility needs.
Accessible yoga gives your body options.
Real yoga honors life changes, supports your nervous system, and celebrates progress in every form it comes in. If this resonates, drop a ❤️ in the comments.
And share this with a friend who needs proof that yoga can meet them exactly where they are. #adaptiveyoga #accessibleyoga #inclusiveyoga #yogaforeverybody #chairyogaflow #yogawithprops #yogaforstrokesurvivors

These days yoga is considered synonymous to asanas. Did you know asanas is a very small part of the yoga journey? The first principle to follow on the path of yoga is Ahimsa. Ahimsa or Non violence is practiced towards fellow beings, nature and also towards ourselves. If we’re practising yogasanas and pranayama for many hours but treating others cruelly, we are not in yoga. Real yoga happens when along with asanas, we treat every being with compassion and respect. Tell us in what way will you incorporate non violence in your own life today onwards? To repel mosquitos naturally, you can - 1. Diffuse Eucalyptus oil 2. Diffuse Citronella oil 3. Burn Sambrani cones 𝐖𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐠𝐚 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐮𝐬? 🧘🏼‍♀️ Join us for the 21-Day Yoga Challenge! Type “𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞” in the comments to learn more. . . #nonviolence #ahimsa #realyoga #yogaoffthemat
This is not manipulation ⛔️THIS IS YOGA Real Yoga is not just about exercises and stretches; it is about energy and how to align with it. One of the most important aspects of yoga is working with the nostrils, which are a gateway to a subtle reality and a key organ in yogic science. Our two nostrils are connected to two powerful energy channels -Ida and Pingala - that alternate approximately every hour and a half, activating different processes in the body, emotions, and mind. Ancient yogic science teaches that when our breath flows through different energy channels, this directly affects how we communicate and how others receive us. When the right nostril is active, the energy supports expression, confidence, and authority. If you feel unheard — first align your breath. Then speak. And follow me for more ancient wisdom of yoga😊🫶🏻
Why can’t I do this yet?! Yoga isn’t always peaceful. It isn’t always graceful. It isn’t always easy. Some days we feel euphoric, even overconfident — pushing too far. Some days we meet jealousy, watching others move how we wish we could. (Many of my students admit this, actually - which I deeply respect!) Some days bring grief, as we notice what once felt easy now feels distant, painful or impossible. Other days feel stagnant, slow, or heavy. And then, just like that — moments of bliss. Feeling moved to tears from pure joy. Landing in presence, free from comparison or desire. All of this — belongs. This is the real yoga. Not the curated version, but the full experience of being human, felt through breath and movement. This is why the practice changes us. Because it teaches us to meet each state as it arises — without needing to fix, deny or rush. It’s why yoga so often becomes the bridge towards self-inquiry and deeper transformation. Not because it makes life easy, but because it gives us tools to stay present with all of it. Joy and grief. Stuckness and bliss. Jealousy and love. This, too, is yoga. #thisistooyoga #realpractice #backbend #lunge #mindfulmovement #beinghuman #personaldevelopment #innerwork #selfawareness #yogateacher #yogapractice
Real yoga doesn’t wait for perfect conditions. Not for more time, better weather, a branded outfit, or a sacred atmosphere. It begins where you are with the breath you have, the body you live in, the moment that’s already here. PS: I was going to share this as a story, but thought—let’s keep this reel real. After all, what you see here is always real. #yoga #love #life #يوغا_مع_مايا #breathe #yogaeverywhere #يوغا #yogamama #realyoga
Sthira Sukham Asanam. That’s the core definition of asana given in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. It means that a posture should be firm and calm at the same time. If it’s only firm, that’s exercise. If it’s only calm, that’s relaxation. Yoga happens when both qualities are present together. Nowadays arm balancing postures are very popular on social media. It's understandable, because it's really an aspect of yoga that looks atractive and can catch attention of people while scrolling. But very often, what we see are highly muscular and defined practitioners who don’t just practice yoga. They also train strength, fitness, calisthenics, or gymnastics and then present those shapes as “yoga." If the same posture were placed on a circus stage, it would be a circus act. If it were placed in a gym, it would look like gymnastics. Yoga is not defined by where it happens or how it looks, but by how it feels on the inside. Real yoga should always feel firm but calm regardless of the posture. And this isn’t only about effort or years of practice. Even people who are already strong and flexible can move with far more ease when they understand the underlying principles. And people who're starting can reach the goals with more ease. That’s what I’m trying to share. My events for 2026 are listed below.
