Из недр «Титаника» доносится грохот рвущихся стальных листов, сопровождающийся глухими взрывами. Лайнер начинает изгибаться, бортовая обшивка трескается и разрывается словно лист бумаги, ломается палубный настил. Во мраке ночи рваные края разлома под третьей трубой, видимые пятью десятками людей, расходятся в противоположные стороны. Третья труба опрокидывается к носу, а четвёртая заваливается в сторону кормы. Носовая часть бесшумно скользит в чёрную воду, отделённая корма медленно отпадает и встаёт на ровный киль. Крики ужаса обречённых мужчин и женщин становятся всё громче и неистовее. Спустя мгновение гребные винты вновь показались из воды, и корма с возрастающей скоростью начинает подниматься в звёздное небо, крутясь вокруг своей оси.

On February 3, 1912 Titanic entered the Thomson Graving dock for the first time. This was quite a momentous event as it would be the largest ship in the world entering the largest dry dock in the world for the first time. It is for this reason that this event is quite well documented with photos and even a film reel. This film reel is the only surviving footage of the ship to this day. The reel consists of 7 different shots, 6 of them showing Titanic at different stages of entering the dry dock and the 7th showing a panning view of Titanic’s port side as she was already docked. In the first shot on the right hand side you can see one of the propeller blades which would be fitted during Titanic two week stay in the dock. Getting the ship into the dry dock was not an easy task as the entrance to the dock was some 96 feet wide and the ship itself was some 92 feet wide.
