Your boat talks to you. The wind. The waves. The heel.
Are you listening?
Your MFD is. But it only knows one word.
Beep.

Thinking about getting into cruising on sailboats but not sure where to start? It can feel overwhelming, but there are plenty of easy ways in:
• Watch YouTube videos to learn the basics of cruising and life on the water
• Spend time at a marina or dock, talk to people and ask questions
• Ask around to see if anyone needs crew, a great way to gain real experience
• Join a local sailing club to get out regularly with experienced skippers
• Take a cruising course if you want a structured introduction
• Read books to build your knowledge and confidence
If your goal is multi-day trips and anchoring out, you will typically need certification or access to a boat.
There is no single path into cruising. Some people buy a boat and learn along the way, but it is important to be realistic, costs like moorage, insurance, and maintenance can add up quickly.
For many, the most accessible and affordable path is joining a club and building experience over time.
The Keelboat Club currently has openings for membership at $150 per year, a great way to get on the water, meet others, and start building your cruising skills.
If you enjoy the outdoors and being on the water, cruising might be a great fit for you too.

Sail Handling That Actually Works
Good sail handling is not about doing one thing perfectly. It is about making steady, timely decisions that keep the boat balanced, moving well, and comfortable to sail.
• Learn how sail trim affects balance, helm feel, and boat speed
• Build confidence around reefing decisions, including when to shorten sail and why
• Practise responding to changing conditions with calmer, clearer judgement on the water
Own boat tuition helps turn sailing knowledge into practical skill — aboard the boat you know, in the conditions you actually sail in.

Ever felt overwhelmed by sailing at first?
At first, it's wind, direction, timing, power—too much to take in.
Then something changes.
You stop reacting, and start anticipating.
Under sail or power, every move begins to make sense.
That's the difference between trying and truly knowing.
Ready to sail with confidence? Join us and learn how.

“Ever sailed with someone who’s so focused on one task they forget about everything else? Meet the Glue Syndrome — when novice skippers get ‘stuck’ on a single thing and miss the bigger picture. ⛵️👀 Do you know someone like this? Quick, simple, and reliable. 🔗⛵️
The Clove Hitch is one of the fastest ways to secure a line to a rail, lifeline or post — the go-to knot for attaching fenders to the lifelines and protecting the boat alongside the dock.
Master the basics, sail smarter.

Stop the line before it runs free. ⛵️
The Figure of 8 / Stopper Knot can be used as a quick stopper to prevent sheets from sliding completely through the blocks and jammers — simple, fast, and effective when you need control.
More essential knots coming in this series… 👀

Captain’s Log – Day 18, Pacific Ocean
Good speed yesterday—covered 133 nautical miles, so that felt great.
Had a bit of an incident though. Wish got overpowered in a squall, too much pressure in the sails, and she broached slightly. In the process, I lost two empty jerry cans overboard when the rail went under—they just floated away like corks. Not easy (or safe) to try and recover them in those conditions, so I had to let them go and hope they don’t cause any harm out there. At least they were empty.
Otherwise, routines are holding up well. Keeping the log updated, staying on top of things. A bit overcast today but with good winds—making around 6 knots under genoa alone, which I’m happy with.
