Day 11 of the Fishermen’s Trail takes me from Sagres to Salema in 20 km. It is the toughest day of the whole trail and I’m in for a real treat! It stormed and rained last night, so the red dirt has turned into red sticky clay which makes walking even more challenging. But that is not the biggest challenge of today. We’ll pass roughly 8-9 breaches and each time we have to descend down and climb back up again. My legs feel super strong and the km are not a problem, but I’m still not good with the descends. I go super slow, baby steps at a time, prolonging my time on the cliff side, making it even harder. The views are spectacular tough, and one beach after another is even prettier than the next. I do feel a bit rushed. I was hoping to reach Furnas beach in time for low tide, because then you can walk to the next 2 beaches and save some cliff top climbing. Unfortunately, the tide is on the rise again and it is not possible. Just as I want to take a break, it starts to rain and I pack up again. Up up up again. The up is not so much the problem. Yea, tiring, but I’m seriously not enjoying myself anymore on the descends. Once I reach Figueira beach, I break down in tears. All that tension and anxiety needs an outlet and I cry. Just as I study the map to see if I can walk around the next cliff and walk by the road to town, 2 ladies pop up from the beach. They are Dutch too, and even from a neighbouring town back home. They offer to drive me to town and I consider this a sign that the universe provides me when I really need it. I take their help and skip the final 2km and final descend. Pfew. Still proud of myself for today. It was tough and when I needed help the most, I was able to open myself up and accept the help on offer. ❤️❤️❤️ #fishermenstrail #fishermenstrailportugal #sagres #salema
