Homes NSW has lodged a Development Application for a new 3-storey residential development at 21–23 Mary Street and 35 Darley Street, Shellharbour. The proposal includes 26 homes – 19 one-bedroom and 7 two-bedroom units – as well as 12 on-site car spaces, an internal lift, landscaping and fencing. 📅 The DA is on public exhibition until 30 September 2026. Residents can view the plans and make a formal submission directly to Shellharbour City Council through Council’s website. I encourage interested residents to have a look at the proposal and make a submission before the closing date to ensure their views are considered as part of the assessment process.

37–42% of homeowners are paying more than 30% of household income on their mortgage. For renters, it’s 26–29% paying more than 30% of income on rent. Homes NSW currently manages 12,000+ dwellings across the region - Bellambi, Shellharbour, East Nowra - but affordable rental stock sits at just over 500 dwellings, nowhere near enough to meet demand. The plan’s biggest single move: the Bellambi Estate renewal, delivering up to 2,500 new homes with a minimum of 30% set aside as social housing. There’s also a regional affordable housing contributions scheme planned, to standardise how developer contributions work across all five councils instead of each one doing it differently. This Friday, Saturday, and Sunday was a Tarmac Tour weekend at HARS Shellharbour Airport, so I paid a visit on Friday to catch the restoration work on the Ex. John Travolta B707 N707JT, and to see the recently donated QantasLink F100 VH-NPU. There are so many historic aircraft to inspect, some with access onboard, some doing engine runs out on the apron, and possibly even flying. Guided tours are available for Hangar 3 and the Qantas B747-400 VH-OJA. This is just a selection of the aircraft on display.
